This is the most lovely christmas music record I have ever heard. In principle it is a very simple thing: beautiful old (German) hymn tunes in renaissance or early baroque settings played by lute and gambas, and sung by a soprano with a lovely sound, not classical, but so convincing in this setting. But it is not easy to be simple. You have to do it in a subtle way to make it come to life. And this is exactly what Hille Perl, Anna Maria Friman, Lee Santana and the Sirius Viols do. This is simply so much Christmas as it always should have been. Perhaps is 'angelic' the word that really sums up its effect.
