The Fortunes emerged in mid-sixties Britain with their debut single, Caroline, which failed to chart but was adopted as the theme song of the famous pirate radio station, Radio Caroline. This gave them plenty of publicity and they went on to have five UK chart hits, four of which made the top ten. Of these, the one they are best remembered for is You've got your troubles, their biggest hit. It peaked at number two in Britain and made the top ten in America. The follow-up, Here it comes again, made the top five in Britain and the top thirty in America. Following these two, their next single, This golden ring, was a comparative disappointment, failing to reach the UK top ten and being only a minor American hit. Worse was to follow, as they were unable to chart again for a few years.
Changes of label eventually yielded more hits, these being That same old feeling (a minor USA hit, in direct competition with the original by Pickettywitch), Here comes that rainy day feeling again (USA top twenty), Freedom come freedom go (UK top ten, a minor USA hit) and Storm in a teacup (UK top ten hit). So ended the chart career of the Fortunes.
This compilation contains all these hits together with all the intermediate failed singles. Moreover, these are all the original recordings - something not always true of re-issues of Fortunes music.
If you enjoy the music of the Hollies and the Tremeloes, you might give the Fortunes a listen.
