Rezension bezieht sich auf: The God Delusion (Taschenbuch)
According to some US poll, about half of the people in the US believe in the literal truth of the bible. Thus, the earth (and of course the universe) is only a few thousand years old, etc. Those people should not read this book, since they will find nothing of value there, and will be most likely so far down the road of their personal "faith" that nothing can bring them back to reality. Of course the same statement is true for the literal believers of other creeds (particular those with the many virgins in paradise waiting for the fighters of holy wars).
For the rest of mankind, however, this book offers a brilliant summary of the topic of "faith versus reason". Granted, many people in the last centuries have had similar thoughts, but this does in no way diminish this book.
There are certainly stronger and weaker parts here, and if you start to scrutinize every page for possibilities of the writers vanity or personal dogmatism, you will find your fair share. But it is not the purpose of the book to be absolutely neutral and political correct about this heavily polarized topic.
In a time of increasing religious extremism with entire nations following some superstitial delusion, with Taliban in the middle east and Taliban in the fly over states of the US trying to ban evolution theory from their schools, you have to thank all the present and past gods for people like Dawkin and books like this.
