I'd heard so much about this novel for so many years that I didn't think anything could be quite that good, so when I read the author's new novel, "The Coming of the Night" I was so impressed by it--it's exciting and chilling at the same time--I wanted to read more, so I read "City of Night," and I see now why it's so often talked about and praised as a "best novel." Beyond that, it comes to life with a great cast of characters and it's funny and moving at the same time. I'm glad I read those two books in that order, because they connect in a wonderful way, full-circle, one just as great as the other. I won't forget Miss Destiny (the fabulous!) in "City of Night" and I won't forget Jesse (the kid!) in "The Coming of the Night." Great books, great reading.
