Beautiful and Rough,
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Phoenix (Audio CD)
Pink Turns Blue has a long history and that's heard in the music. The songs are written beautifully and they don't forget to sound rough without losing their accessibility. The production is rough enough, but musically the sound is recognisable and easy to the ears. Singer Mic Jogwar fits perfectly with his somewhat hoarse voice and the mix with Brigid Andersson vocally give this band an own face if you compare it to other bands in this genre. Listen for instance to 'Now's The Time' (with a typical 80's guitar sound) and the beautiful 'Wanderers'. Sometimes the band goes a little too far in their enthusiasm, because a song like 'Dynamite' would have sounded better when it was two minutes shorter than the six minutes that it take now. Nice songs are the slowly dragging 'Underground', 'The Crusade' and 'Feel My Soul'. Although the guitar sound sometimes reminds of the Cure (like on 'Good Times') the music isn't a copy of any band. It's just nice music that is performed like it should. "Phoenix" is a record that should be liked by fans of the dark wave genre, but is also a big recommendation for people who like indie pop bands like Interpol.
