Rezension bezieht sich auf: John Theophilus Desaguliers: A Natural Philosopher, Engineer and Freemason in Newtonian England (Taschenbuch)
Parts of the personality of JTD was described in quite some books before, but never more comprehensive than in this good attempt of a biography.
Mrs. Carpenter obviously discovered new documentary material, proving that Desaguliers consisted of very different extraordinary qualities.
The scientist, researcher and lecturer gave reason to fill most of the 360 pages. But also the Freemason was surprisingly well introduced to the reader.
However it is a pitty, that the Lady Author was not able to use the archives in Canterbury since JTD was also an ordained priest of the Church of England.
He even acted as one of the chaplains in the household of the Prince of Wales. This part of his life perhaps exerted more influence on Desaguliers than mentioned. Unfortunately JTD died rather unhappy inspite of his many admirer. May be this fact could fill another book.
