464 vs. 91,
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium Trilogy) (Taschenbuch)
It's a simple enough calculation: I award the full 5 stars to the first 464 pages of this paperback, which was, up to this point, unputdownable - I finished the whole book in one feverish weekend. Those 464 pages describe Blomkivist's search for the truth about a possible killing 40 years ago, and it's among the best I've ever read in crime fiction. The riddle is exquisitely solved after page 464 and is what all the praise you can read here is all about.
But can you forget the incredibly tedious 91 last pages that equal 1 star? Blomkvist wants to have his revenge after being innocently sent to prison for libel. And boy, isn't that just the most boring bit of financial-political-business-thriller you can imagine? Well, the average is 3 stars - but I put down the book feeling rather cool after the fever lay 91 pages in the past.

Sarah Langer meint:
That's exactly what I felt and thought after finishing the book! Putting it down I was disappointed, the last 90 pages really sucked. If it had ended 90 pages sooner, I would have ordered the next book right away - but now I'm not so sure I'll ever pick up any book by Stieg Larsson ever again.

It may be a simple calculation, but you have arrived at the wrong result. The 464 pages weigh more than the the 91 pages, therefore, you cannot go with (5 + 1) / 2 = 3.
The correct calculation would be (464 * 5 + 91 * 1) / (464 + 91), which gives you an average of 4.3.
Therefore, I apply formally that you adjust your rating to 4 stars (at least).

I agree, the last part is downright bad, and degrades the whole to pulp fiction. Otherwise it is a classic page turner, with the best of them.
So I am trying the second part, with misgivings...
