A short story but a world classic into human pyschology,
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (Penguin Popular Classics) (Taschenbuch)
Being Scottish myself, I have a close affinity with the works of Robert Louis Stevenson. Jekyll and Hyde is his master work and the title has become a synonym for someone with a split personality. But what makes this work stand out is that it was based on a DREAM that Stevenson had! As soon as he woke up, he started writing and the rest is history.
The story revolves around a lawyer called Utterson who is determined to prove that the respected doctor Henry Jekyll and a nasty evil moster called Hyde is one and the same person. Everyone else is convinced that they are two separate people (that Hyde is Jekyll's friend) but Utterson is convinced differently. He has in his possession a will which says that if Jekyll goes missing then Hyde gets everything. Since Jekyll hasn't been seen in months, Utterson suspects something is very badly wrong.
This is a gripping tale of split personalities and human psychology. And considering that Stevenson wrote this book in less than a month, you can only be amazed at his achievement.
Read it - and then read it again.
