When i started to read that series i fell in love with the character and ignored the ocassionally appearing cussword but around book 3 thats pretty much all that is left and there isnt a sentence without one ... very sad cose the story is good and the characters interessting (once u get past their cussing)
Spoiler Alert for the events in the previous books of the series: the books contribute to a strong overall story-arc and should be read in the right order to get the most out of it. So if you are new to the series, I recommend to stop reading here and start at book one "Priceless".
Synopsis [by Goodreads.com]
"My name is Rylee, and I am a Tracker." When children go missing, and the Humans have no leads, I'm the one they call. I am their last hope in bringing home the lost ones. I salvage what they cannot.
Bringing my allies together as war approaches is my number one concern. But that means I have to play nice with a vampire who is blackmailing me. If I don’t, I’m screwed and my family is dead. But I don't play nice. And I have a backup plan. Kinda.
Throw in some new weapons being developed that work around supernaturals and I have more problems than I can handle on my own. Good thing I have a kick a...team. Even if they are on the other side of the world from me.
With the last book, I was a bit afraid that the series would lose its unique pacing in the balanced way it combines overall story-arc, the case at hand and the relationships. It felt a bit rushed and too short. But I shouldn't have worried! The series is back with all that makes it stand out in the variety of UF and Dark Fantasy-books. For me, the most satisfying part are the vampire prophecies that are finally dealt with. And in a way I didn't see coming, that caught me unawares. Rylee's way is just ingenious and it brings this chapter to a very well wrapped-up end.
*Mild Spoiler* ahead: at the end of this book, the vampires have their leader and Rylee's part in the vampire prophecies concerning the thorne, is done. Yet, I'm still awed at the solution Rylee found.
Yet, there is no denying the grief Rylee and her unlikely "family" still suffer from the horrendous death's of Dox and the ogre triplets. And the sense of "impending doom" hanging over them does not lessen the least bit. Especially after some of the group get a "Reading" by an unexpected visitor, it's clear that not all of them will make it out alive the last stand against the demons. Or will even live until then. I have to admit, it made me quite sad knowing who will die in the future [no, of course no telling!].
On the "plus"-side, it seems that redemption is possible and that again not all characters are always what they seem. Even if one thought them evil to the core. This is especially true with this installment - although it's an overall strength of the series that all characters have their flaws as well as their [sometimes well hidden] salvaging traits. None is one-dimensional.
So it seems with this book closing the vampire-chapter for now, all is going to be set up for the final battle against the demons, Rylee has to lead. And I think there will be revelations as to what "Blood of the Lost" means exactly, as well as information about Rylee's real parents. Can't wait to read on!
I cannot get enough oft the series. A lot oft up and downs through the story line. If you think that you reached a dark place the story does a turn and gets you hope that there will be light in the end off the tunnel.
