After having read Daphne du Maurier's short story "The Birds" and enjoying it, I decided to get the film as I had heard a lot about its qualities as THE horror film, and how many movie-goers had problems encountering harmless flocks of birds for some time afterwards. I don't know whether it is just me, but I consider the film a definite let-down in comparison to the novel, which has far more emotional impact, The people also remain stereotypes: the rich girl who wants the handsome wealthy male, the slightly eccentric bird-lover, the neurotic mother, the locals with their not-all-that varied reactions.
My suggestion is: read the short story and get a real thrill....
