A slow start, which made me think " oh gosh, another boring drama-filled story", but after a couple of chapters it picked up, and I was really drawn into the lives of Rose, Maddy, Hannah and Aidan. The way the author interweaves their lives, the relationship between Rose and Maddy had me glued to the pages until the end. Very good narration style, good characters (who all carry a big burden and secrets), humorous dialogues and a very interesting plot make this a hearwarming story I really enjoyed reading. The only thing that put me a bit off was toward the end, the last quarter - the Hannah/Irene angle (sorry, may be a bit of a spoiler), just did not fit in, or was this supposed to be a supernatural story? For me, this last bit spoilt the rest of a good story a bit. All in all though, a very enjoyble read after a slow start..
...once again I seem to have misinterpreted the "Book 1" bit. I loved this story, the characters, and the dynamics. The better part of this book centers around the relationship between Maddy and her mother, but of course there's a love story going on as well. And as the book ends and you find yourself content after a happy read, you see the announcement for Book 2, which is about...the same love story, to be continued. I found that really annoying. This book seemed to have found a natural ending already, so I don't see why it has to go on. So to me this is not "Book 1" but "Part 1". Overall, though, an absolutely recommendable book.
