First I need to mention that I gave only four stars, because of the rather small and eye tiring print and the not so very good reproduction of the illustrations.
In every other aspect I think Flanders' work on victorian London really superior. Whether you read it because you are interested in the history of a great city or as author for background information, you will be satisfied. Though she is not the first author to take the writings of Dickens as her lead, it is a very good idea - as a side effect I find myself hooked again by his wonderful novels. A good index and bibliography complete this recommandable work.
