Pros and Cons
am 31. Mai 2013
The Expats left me ambivalent. On the one hand, as An American having lived in Europe for a long time, it was interesting to read what new expats notice. (Chris Pavone indicates in the acknowledgements that he recently spent a couple of years in Luxembourg.) But this also is what I didn't like about the book. The protagonist is supposed to be a very capable and experienced intelligence agent, yet everything she constantly seems to be surprised that things abroad are different than they are in the US. Her perspective and the things she notices seem to be the same things that Chris Pavone, the author, noticed while he was abroad. That makes it both interesting and problematic.
