not so cool

I have alsways been a GNR (and particularly an AFD) fan and especially liked Slash and Izzy the most of GNR somehow. Now after 30 years and after reading this book I just realized what low, immoral and disgusting characters they really were/are with the lack of any decency. Just a few quotes, maybe you understand what I mean:
"We were taking turns having s x with her, but Izzy wasn't wearing protection, so when he pulled out, he f g came on my leg, since I was right on the other side of her."
"I did a big hit of smack before we went on, which, when mixed with the liquor I had already been drinking, made my stomach so rotten that I'd turn around and blow chunks over the back of my amps every five minutes."
"Monica was a swedish p n star who'd taken Steven in and I couldn't have asked for a better place to lay low because we used to have awesome threesomes."
"...By the end of our set, this disgusting war of the wills became f g fun. We ended up with green phlegm all over us, and considering that it was warm out, not only was I shirtless, but the heat cooked the spit and made it smell pretty bad."
"Another pastime of mine was taking my frustrations out on the rental vans that Alan provided for us. There was no rhyme or reason, I'd just kick the windows out, break the mirrors - anything glass was in danger. I drove one of them through an industrial - strength fence and destroyed both the fence and the van's front end. I treated those things as if they were battering rams. I would walk up to a brand-new one and smash the headlights out before I even got behind the wheel."
Slash doesn't seem to regret most of the stuff that he considers 'rock n roll culture'. Well the stuff has absolutely nothing to do with any culture whatsoever. It's rather the lack thereof, unless you are willing to consider as culture a lifestyle that revolves around
- attaining everything you need for life through stealing
- constantly destroying other people's property for no reason
- taking in whatever drugs and alcohol you can find and never being sober at any given time
- having sexual intercourse every day with another person that just comes along your way
- never caring about your mother, father, brother or anyone
- not taking responsibility for anything in life
GNR used to have that slogan "learn to live like an animal". Well, the way I see it is that animals have way more decency than these disgusting characters will ever have.
Besides that, the book is really written poorly. Slash constantly jumps back and forth without saying about wich timeframe he's actually speaking, many times it's quite difficult to follow the story.
A lot of times why reading this horrendous stuff I was asking myself, when the heck did he practice guitar? It seems he was pretty occupied with the streetlife thing and being a junkie, so according to his narration, he really didn't practice much, wich again i belive is quite dishonest.
Another thing i keept asking myself is, where the heck where his parents when he got a junkie at the age of 19 and even for years had no place to stay?? He even did his first interviews at the hell house. What was the relationship to his parents and his younger brother like all those years. The only time he mentions his parents in this period is when his on/off girlfriend yvonne arranges a meeting between him and his parents, without him knowing, b/c see was fearing for him as she noticed that he has become a junkie. All he says about this meeting is, that they considered him to be ok, and that's about it. And the next couple of years he didn't have a place to go. Strange narration, isn't it? Or maybe dishonest is the better expression instead of strange. I think there's a lot of things regarding the relationship between him and his family in this period that he deliberately remains silent about...
He may be honest about the things he says, but all in all, I think he's been quite dishonest with the things he doesn't say (e.g. about the schizophrenic character W. Axl Rose, or the quit of Izzy). Or maybe he really never reflected that much about those things, being more engaged with getting the next dose of whatever drugs he were on at that time. It seems he never really got past a 12 year old, that is crazy about living a life of sex, drugs and rock n woll without having to care about any responsibilities...
