Well written, great characters, and the author has done her research as well. I enjoyed every page of this novel. The characters act according to the time and societey they live in, which I highly appreciate. Also, each of them have virtues and faults which makes them sophisticated and credible. The mystery itself was complex enough to keep me engaged in guessing until the end. Now I'm looking forward to the next three volumes of this series :-)
A thoroughly enjoyable read and a page turner. Strong points: the plot with enough unexpected turns. I very ,much like the portrayal of the social situation of women of different classes at the end of the 19th century, what was expected of them, what was considered ladylike and not etc. What I hope to see more of in the next books: the setting of San Francisco. It is such a delightful city that I would love to ge a feel for it in the book.
