Gillian Flynn's beloved dark style
am 22. September 2014
As always, very interesting characters, very gripping style of writing and the atmosphere just so hopelessly claustrophobic. Mrs. Flynn has a pattern of presenting complex female characters and letting you in on their deepest secrets and fears. I just loved how the secrets were page by page divulged to the reader and allowing him/her to sympathize with each action, each dark thought. Excellent read for summer vacations. I literally "swallowed" the content within a week!
One negative point: After "Gone Girl" expectations from Mrs. Flynn are naturally high... Yes, this is a dark psychological neo-horror and yes, it's very intricately written and gripping, but something seems to be missing. Perhaps it the subtlety of characters. Sharp Objects gives you very simplified villains. Hence the 4 stars. The ending seems to be too simplified.
