A very 60's production
am 14. April 2014
My previous exposure to Zeller's music is limited to the Seefestspiele production of this Operetta, which is very different in style, being a stage rather that a movie production. That said, both productions lack subtitles, making it a little difficult to follow the action. In addition, many scenes in this production are either handled so differently as to make them difficult to identify, or missing completely. In particular, I was interested to see how the "Kampf nie mit Frauen" scene would go, as it is my favourite in the Seefestspiele production, only to find it omitted completely
The difference in sound quality in the musical numbers would indicate that they were studio recorded and lip-synched on screen, with the synching leaving something to be desired, specifically Froboess removing the horn from her lips while the trumpeter was still blowing.
However, that is all nit-picking. Overall assessment, a fresh approach which will have a valued place in my collection.
