Translation from English to German is insulting!
am 25. November 1999
The contents of the English novel is SUPERIOR. As a woman, I am outraged at the obviously purposeful changes made by the translators to the oh so important contents of this novel. I hope someone alerts Ms. Wood to this fact. In the English version, Sabina Fabiana is a woman with a mission, told in the first person, with a singleminded goal. In the German version, she is following husbands around, and the importance of finding the Righteous One takes a back seat.... The rites of passage she took part in several cults of rebirth ARE NOT EVEN MENTIONED IN THE GERMAN VERSION!!! The scene where she meets the Righteous One in the woods towards the end, and his message to her IS NOT IN THE GERMAN VERSION!!!And the clincher? Father Michael REMAINS A PRIEST IN THE GERMAN VERSION !!! The German version doesn't even begin the same way. It begins with the Magi throwing the woman down the well - I mean, what is this?
