Our expectations were not fulfilled!

The novel 'The Tail of Sherlock Bones' by Jennifer Gallagher was published by Cornelsen. It deals with Max, who goes on a trip to Scotland with his dog Sherlock and his mum. It's an adventure story although the title makes you think of a detective story.
Some topics of the book are quite informative. So, one can learn about Scottish traditions and Max's complicated relationship to his mother. The novel is easy to read and good to extend your vocabulary. Unfortunately, many parts of the story are boring, for example the journey to Scotland. The parts that are written from Sherlock's perspective are very unrealistic and the ending of the book is predictable. Moreover, the chapter headings and the cover do not really fit to the content of the story.
Many of us said that it was okay to read the book in class but they wouldn't want to read it in their freetime.
We would recommend the book to children in the age of 8-12.
