Fear, pain, despair, death, revenge... And love...
am 1. Mai 2006
This underground graphic novel gained world wide fame after the first and best Crow movie was released. The tragical death of Brandon Lee was a unintented marketing factor and gave the movie a even more dark tone. The comic is nothing special story wise, but that's not what it is about, it's also not just a vigilante story. It is certainly not an unpersonal, weeping gothic story (HIM like) about a lost love, it's way personal and deeper. Although there are many flaws like wrong lyrics of the old Joy Division text, predictable storyline etc., this should've been looked at as a personal catharsis story which lets you be part of something dark and beautiful at the same time. If someone looks at it as a "normal" graphic novel, he'll only find an average vigilante story with some nice drawings of flashbacks; if you're willing to dwell into it you can get something that can touch more than all of the commercial gothic songs, superficial love movies and ensurance commercials. If you want a perfect graphic novel with an psychological approach, you're looking in the wrong place.
