An amazing debut, Anthony Ryan’s 'Blood Song' kept my attention from the very first pages and it was almost impossible to put down. If it weren’t for trivialities like food, sleep or work, I sure wouldn’t have. Even with so many great books already out there, this one definitely makes it into my personal Top10.
It’s hard to describe the book without giving too much away. You'd probably find it in the fantasy-section of a bookstore, but it would also fit in with coming-of-age-literature. Both wouldn’t give 'Blood Song' enough credit by far. It deserves a special place, because it is a special and extremely well-written book. Sudden and surprising twists lead well thought-out characters through an interesting and realistic new world, seen through the eyes of the main character Vaelin Al Sorna.
'Blood Song' is a book about growing up, about faith, about about forming one’s own destiny, about loyalty. It is also about politics and intrigues, about battles and bloodshed. About family. About friendship. It is philosophic, but has enough mystery, magic, blood and violence to keep everybody entertained and happy.
OK, I’ll stop blubbering, so you can do the only sensible thing here: GO BUY AND READ THIS BOOK! I know you will enjoy it from cover to cover.
