I was initially suspicious of Robin's book because of the slightly goofy layout and graphics, but they serve a purpose. I had always been frustrated by instructional books that claimed to be clear and concise but still managed to gloss-over some very fundamental things that lead to an understanding of the "big picture". Robin's book tells you exactly what you need to know, and then just a little bit more so that you really appreciate what you are learning. She provides a context for learning instead of just giving instructions. This is a very intelligently-written book and worth every penny. Well done!

...and I was not disappointed! I want to thank all the people that reviewed this book before me. The positive comments helped me purchase a GREAT book that I would not have found otherwise. From the first few pages I KNEW that this book would help me understand web design. Even the chapters that they tell you to skip if you already have a basic knowledge of, (such as the chapter on the Internet) were extremely useful. I would NOT SKIP A THING in this book. It is PACKED with information to help the novice thru more advanced, in a very easy to understand tone. BUY THIS BOOK...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Great for the beginner and moderately experienced: those who want to make basic improvements to their existing Web pages or those who want to do it right from the start. Plenty of teach even the well-experienced. Also, as a Web Site manager, I lend this book to people who are getting started or need a little fine tuning. The chapters on images and basic design principles should be required reading for ALL creators of Web pages. The authors clearly thought long and hard about what people like us need to know to do things well and efficiently. Plus it's simply a good, fun, engaging read. Well done.

After reading Ms. William's other Non-Designer's title, I was anxious to see what additional wisdom she brought to Web design. Her new book does not disappoint: Along with John Tollett, she has produced a beautifully-illustrated, informative, and funny primer on Web design. There is plenty in this book for more advanced Web designers, too, although they will be able to skip the introductory chapters. I especially appreciated the authors' generous spirit in critiqueing other Web sites, as opposed to the nasty "Webs-sites-that-suck" snipes so prevalent now.

Ms Williams has done it again, her writing style, power of communication, design sense is exceptional. The books interface: pairing the HTML with the graphic result is undoubtably the easiest method for learning, Unlike other HTML Tomes I find that her lessons stick. Tips on standard pitfalls and Web Page annoyances should be required reading for all Web designers. As always her thourough index allows for quick reference. Although geared for beginners and "non-designers" I dare anyone claim they haven't gained something from this book.

Having thoroughly enjoyed _The_Non-Designer's_Design_Book_, I was eager to see Ms Williams' views on web-specific design. This book is everything I expected, and more. Both my older son (just getting his foot in the door of web design) and I (a programmer and HTML hacker for years) have already found valuable ideas and tips. The before-and-after examples are especially valuable in helping the reader understand the principles that the book teaches. If I could only have one book on web site/page design (and I have MANY!), this would be it.

Imagine a how-to book you can't wait to get back to. The authors address to my need for organizing thoughts and files and give me clear directions-- helping me understand how to provide content to a designer. Indeed, this book gives the very directions that I begged for (in vain) recently from a local web design firm. If you need to visualize how building a web site works before just jumping in, this will help -- and inspire you. Either for managing web site creation or do-it-yourself

If you haven't the first clue how to go about designing a web page that is visually appealing and easy to navigate, this book is the one to buy. Williams and Tollett showed me the error of my web designing ways--and I have a great looking site to prove it!
Professional designers and Net-heads probably won't get much out of this book--but if you're greener than green and need to know how to design a site that works, pick this one up!

This is a superb book. Because the focuss is on design principles, rather than a particular software package or computer platform (Mac vs PC), it is destined to become a timeless classic. The pricing is also extremely reasonable.
Ideal for new designers, I can't help but think that perhaps a few of the so-called "web-design experts" could learn a thing or two form it. Buy it first, before you even consider another book.

This book really shows how and what is needed for a good looking web page. The principles and concepts seem like common sense when reading this book. Seems like a lot of web page designers need this book. I have used it to help me to design my web pages to look professional and under stand what is needed in creating a web page. More than a few colors and pictures this helps you to think about what you plan to do on the web
