I read Design Patterns, thought hey this is pretty neat, and set it aside. A while later I caught myself thinking in terms of the patterns outlined in the book, picked it up and re-read it. It was on the second reading that I was really struck by the knowledge contained.
Moral: Make sure you read this book, and make sure you read this book more then once.

I've been programming professionally for several years,
but this book opened my eyes. I'm excited to tackle
new projects using the principles I learned in this book.

The book gives complete explanations of the patterns,
reasons why you should use the different patterns,
and wonderful examples (in C++ and Smalltalk).

Buy it, learn it, live it!

Definitely a must-have classic book. It is well written and systematically structured. Every pattern is thorougly commented and an example (mostly in C++) is included. The book is held in an easy-to-understand langauge and is strongly advisable not only for architect-beginners, but also for programmers as well as experienced analysts.

Before you buy this, make up your mind that you are going to take a pencil and write all over it. As I was reading this, I constantly was getting new ideas and changing my thoughts on computing. I wrote throughout the pages of this book as I was thinking and it has made the book that much more endearing. A fantastic read!

This book clearly presents dozens of design patterns applied
to "real-world" applications.
Whereas the design patterns presented are usually basic in
their nature, the book provides a glossary that can always
be referred to, and provides concise and important
terminology and descriptions.

If you've ever designed an OO system and fell into the same traps and gotcha's, this book will save you. The 23 design patterns detail solutions (and caveats) to some of the most common computing problems. And you'll never be without a buzzword or phrase to stymie the newbie OO developer

Finally a book in OO that can compare with the legendary D. Knuth books "The Art of Programming Vol. 1-3". It is time that Software Designer understand that more Engineering methods can be applied in their field than they ever thought. This book is a good example for that.

This book is a MUST for any programmer/ software engineer who has to do anything with OO design/development! To me this is one of the best technical books I have ever read!! Great job! I would love to see the examples of the books in Java (apart from C++/Smalltalk)...

Cannot believe it only has a 4.5 rating. It should be rated 5 stars.
