The world is suffering this book
am 6. Februar 2007
A lot of public relationship work boosted up this book. Clearly, marketing can make a book a success. Selling into the american market is a big advantage, and creates numbers. No doubt being No.1 in a sector of the bookmarket is a success. But the worst daily newspaper has apparently also the biggest circulation.
On the content: Apparently outside America the examples are mostly not applicable and mainly not understodd. What Friedman presented as a fact is mostly only a subjective assessment and a view from a very small angle. What he presents as personal opinion is often fluffy and maybe good for some brainwashed US-TV maniacs. It looks like gloomy words in lucid cans.
To my observation the Indians love this book and take it a scientific paper to undermine the theory of being world's biggest empire soon. The Americans I spoke to read it like newspaper; The Europeans still shake their head.
Thomas Friedmann has missed to realise that the world is more than America only. America has flattened rapidly, that's true. Intellectually and economically in many areas, in others not. But the turnaround is predictable as the mighty leaders are still in control and can change the directions any time. Also other countries will not follow the same paths.
Beside assessing the conclusions the reading is mainly boring and does not give much help as it is only impressing and not persuasive. His views are subjective, not filtered and all turned out for the biggest show effect. All for the glorification of the author, not much for the benefit of the reader. Welcome to the world of power point with no substance. I see a white horse and analyse the world...
