too much detail
am 22. April 2014
Although this is an excellent scholarly work, it is for that very same reason hard to read and even harder to digest for the average - even the fairly well informed - reader. In particular in the opening section on Serbia, there is such a wealth of detail, so many names, places, people, that one is overwhelmed and tends to lose sight of the major issues. I will continue to plough on to the end of the book, but I know that by then I will have forgotten at least 90% of the details the book provided me with. A simpler, more schematic account would have helped me more to understand why the First World War broke out..
