Interesting perspective on body language
am 6. Juli 2017
Joe Navarro explores our body language as limbic responses to distress, i.e. freeze, flight and fight. He points out pacifying behaviors, such as stroking your neck or face. Then he goes up through the body, looking at legs, torso, arms, hands and face. When someone is trying to conceal his or her emotions, some parts of the body are less easy to control more than others.
There are a few points that don't make much sense to me, especially regarding legs and feet. E.g., I'm skeptical about his take on standing with your legs crossed, which he sees as an indication that the person is very comfortable with the person he or she are standing next to. If you are not centered physically, it could (to my mind) also reflect a sense of insecurity... or the need to find a restroom!!
Overall, however, an interesting body language book for anyone trying to discover physical dissonance.
