At the age of thirteen, Lois Bates gets a book from her aunt - but nut just any book. It's a manual written by her Dad, who died when Lois was only five years old.
Every year on her birthday from age 12 to 30 she's allowed to read another chapter and Lois clings to every word her Dad has written. Soon The Manual becomes Lois guideline through life.
The first date, the first kiss, the first really important job, friends, love, family - her Dad is guiding and "accompanying" Lois through all the experience life has to offer by giving her advice and telling her about his own experience - and he is doing it in such a cute and funny way :-)!!!

We (the readers) also accompany Lois on her way to finally becoming the woman she is meant to be. It's a way of happiness and joy but also a way of hardship and set backs - just like in reality.

"By the Time you Read this" is a wonderful book and simply great. It's emotional and profound while at the same time it's funny and easy to read. The characters are very authentic and I could feel with them all. The excerpts from The Manual will make you laugh and cry at the same time.
Very cute was also the story about Corey - Lois' childhood friend and teenage love. From the very beginning I simply knew that they were meant for each other but somehow the timing is just never right...

Given the story, one can not help being reminded of "PS I love you" by Cecelia Ahern but hey, who says Ahern is the only one who can write a story like that??
Lola Jaye's debut novel is in any case special and great in its own way - definitely recommendable!!!

It seems to be a lovely novel from what I've read so far. The focus is very much on the relationship between Lois and her father and especially the beginning of "The Mannual" is very moving. I haven't finished reading it yet, but I think it's a lovely story to read.

Insgesamt ein gutes Buch mit guter Story und die Sprache ist auch nicht schwer. Gut geeignet für Buchpräsentationen oder ähnliches.
