When Frontiers released the first groundbreaking album of Pride Of Linos in 2013, many people wondered if this would be one of the projects which disappears again after one or two releases or whether it was a real band that remains.

Now 14 years later, the answer is Glasklar with the announcement of their fifth studio album. In addition to the studio albums, Jim Peterik, Toby Hitchcock and the impressive Pride Of Lions made clear with their live in Belgium CD and DVD that they are not only a studio connection but a live violence that has already played many headliner shows in America.

We are always trying to top ourselves tells the singer/songwriter/guitarist Jim Peterik. This time I went back and listened closely to all the previous cds to hear the strongest assets of each record: what was working and what could be improved. I went into writing the fearless material keeping that in mind. I feel it sticks closer to the template we set with our first cd, yet goes to new places musically as well like using a Kansas- style fiddle- played by Andrew Ohlrich- on the video/single All I See is You.

When I got together with Jim in Chicago to record- things just caught fire enthuses Toby. I sang 12 vocals in two days- unheard of! That s how inspired I was with the new material.

Toby hit new heights on this cd raves Jim. I was sitting behind the recording console with Larry Millas just one big goose bump as Toby glided from hard rockers like rising up , classic melodic rock like all i see is you to a heartfelt ode to timeless love- everlasting love.

    Pride of Lions werden weitestgehend dem Genre AOR zugeordnet, was sich nach altbacken und mindestens vorgestern anhört. Umso mehr hat mich diese Scheibe überrascht: auf voller Länge gibt es überhaupt nix auszusetzen: exzellente Meldien, der Gesang passt auch und nicht zuletzt die Produktion. Das ergibt eine extrem abwechselungsreiche Scheibe, die auch nie langweilig wird. Die Reihenfolge der Titel ist mustergültig: der Hörer schaltet nie aus Langeweile ab, da die einzelnen Titel jeder einen eigenen Stempel trägt und auch die Titel selbst sind in sich sehr gut strukturiert, wodurch die Spannung beim Hörer durchgängig erhalten bleibt
    Mir gefällt auch sehr gut, dass immer mal wieder Ausflüge Richtung Hardrock unternommen werden. Nach Journey und vergleichbaren Combos aus den 1970er und 1980er Jahren hatte ich lange Zeit das Gefühl, die Wiese sei abgegrast. Dem ist aber nicht so, dieser Boden trägt prächtig

    Das toll gestaltete Cover weckt große Hoffnungen, was die Musik nicht ganz erfüllen kann. Ihr neues Album ist zwar wieder besser als ihr Vorgänger, kommt aber an ihre ersten drei Alben nicht heran.
    Warum nicht?
    Es ist zwar der unverkennbare Pride of Lions Stil, mit dem ein oder mehrstimmigen Gesang und den typischen Ryhtmen, aber mir fehlen einfach die Hammer Balladen wie zum Beispiel "The Gift of Song", "Black Ribbons" usw., außerdem ist es mir im Titelsong "Fearless" oder "Rising up" einfach zu hart. Das hat meiner Meinung nach nichts mit AOR Rock zu tun, sondern geht schon zum Hard Rock über.
    Beste Songs für mich die Balladen "Everlasting Love" - mit toller Gitarre -, "The Light in your Eyes" und "Unmasking the mystery".
    Fazit: Als Neueinsteiger würde ich nicht zu ihrem neuen Album raten, sodern zu ihren ersten drei, als Fan kann und wird man sich das Album wie ich sowieso kaufen.
    Bin von dem Album jetzt aber nicht enttäuscht, aber auch nicht voll überzeugt. Wenn ich Pride of Lions hören will, werde ich öfters zu ihren alten Scheiben greifen, und wahrscheinlich nur hin und wieder ihr neues Album auflegen.

    Bei den Veröffentlichungen der Prideof Lions war ein gewisser Ermüdungseffekt eingetreten. Jim Peterik ist zwar ein genialer Songschreiber (und guter Sänger), aber doch so ziemlich in seinem eigenen Soundkosmos gefangen, das heißt, vieles hört sich vom Stil her "ähnlich" an.

    Ob dann ein sehr gutes oder nur gutes Album herauskommt hängt davon ab, ob letztlich die unwiderstehlichen Refrains, die das Debüt 2003 bot, auf der Scheibe landen. Und da kann ich alle beruhigen. Nachdem der Vorgänger "Immortal" - vor allem nach öfterem Hören - doch etwas abfiel, ist Fearless wieder auf höchstem Niveau, so dass sich die Frage nach dem Sinn eines weiteren Albums erübrigt.

    Die Songs gehen rein und Toby Hitchcock singt wie immer super.

    Ich möchte keine einzelnen Songs herausheben (doch: "Freedom Of The Night" ist göttlich), denn das ganze Album ist toll. Wer erstmal testen möchte, findet bereits vier volle vorab veröffentlichte Songs auf dem bekannten Videoportal.
    Ich habe mir die Vinylausgabe zugelegt, die im schönen Klappcover kommt.

    Für mich ist "Fearless" das bisher beste Album von Pride of Lions. Warum? Der "Ohrwurmfaktor" von Peterik hat bei vielen Songs wieder zugeschlagen, mehr muss man dazu nicht sagen.

    Auch wenn, und dabei bleibe ich, Hitchcock für mich nicht der größte Sänger ist, sind die Songs dieses Mal wesentlich besser auf ihn zugeschnitten. So passt alles ziemlich gut zusammen und man ist dankbar, dass man 2017 noch solche Songs zu hören bekommt, ich hatte ja die Hoffnung fast schon aufgegeben.

    Meine Favoriten auf diesem Album sind "The Tell", "In Caricature", "The light in your eyes" und "Everlasting love". Letzterer Titel ist eine starke Ballade, die an beste Survivor-Zeiten erinnert. Der Rest kann sich ebenfalls hören lassen, auch wenn es Songs wie "Rising up" oder den Titelsong nicht gebraucht hätte.

    In der Summe bleibt also ein Album, was Lust auf mehr macht. Survivor-Fans dürften mehrheitlich von dem Album begeistert sein.
