I have two sons, 7 and 10 years old, both are interested in computer games. MIP was a wish as a birthday gift for the older one. The only condition I raised was the possibility of programming for this robot, and yes, it can be done via various ways.
The children like this toy. They can control it with 1) hand gestures, 2) an Android being run on an Asus EeePc (this is a 2008 model), 3) Stuart Warren's mip project from GitHub (a Python module) with the JiClipse intergrated development environment under Ubuntu Linux 14.04. The methods 2) and 3) required a recent Bluetooth Low Energy USB dongle (I bought ORICO BTA-402 which is another good deal). There would be other ways,e.g. using an Android tablet or a recent Android phone, but the kids are just too young to own a tablet or a phone yet.
Everything works fine. It is important to use rechargable batteries.
