Purchase options and add-ons

Based on a groundbreaking theory of crime prevention, this practical and empowering book shows how citizens, business owners, and police can work together to ensure the safety of their communities. George Kelling, one of America’s leading criminologists, has proven the success of his method across the country, from the New York City subways to the public parks of Seattle. Here, Kelling and urban anthropologist and lawyer Catherine Coles demonstrate that by controlling disorderly behavior in public spaces, we can create an environment where serious crime cannot flourish, and they explain how to adapt these effective methods for use in our own homes and communities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Every Law Enforcement Officer
Reviewed in the United States on 28 May 2024
Amazing theory... read it many years ago...loaned my copy to someone long ago so I wanted to brush up on content. Broken Windows was a key element towards the revitalization of NYC through the 80's and 90's. Homicides in the early 80's were 2200 per year....not a typo (Two Thousand Two Hundred) the Giuliani administration managed to reduce homicides by 1900... to less than 300 in about 10 years time holding those number through the 2000's and the Bloomberg Administration. Consequently, nearly every major city in the world emulated the principles with mostly success. Of course the lunatics have gained control of these cities and reversed those effort in very short time.. NYC closing in on 400 and rising steadily

4.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas, not so great reading

A great book, with a nicely presented concept of public security and order maintenance, but a bit boring to read.

    4.0 out of 5 stars 「割れ窓理論」をビジネスに活用
Reviewed in Japan on 14 June 2004
