Show Me How is a revolutionary reimagining of the reference genre, one part how-to guide, one part graphic art showpiece, and one part pure inspiration. In a series of 500 nearly wordless, highly informative step-by-step procedurals, readers learn how to do hundreds of useful (and fascinating and important and sometimes downright bizarre) tasks, including: Perform CPR, dance the tango, pack a suitcase, win a bar bet, play the blues, make authentic sushi rolls, fight a shark . . . and 493 more essentials of modern life. Packed with useful hands-on reference material, Show Me How is a work of art that just happens to also be an indispensable real-life resource.

Obviously, not everything imaginable is covered here, which is why I will probably turn to Google before this book if I need to know something. Out of the zillion things possible in the world, this book covers 500, so chances are the thing I want to know will not be in the book.
However, that doesn't devalue this book in the least. This is a fun, beautifully laid out, gorgeous graphics, catchy cover, smartly designed good time in 500 chapters. I love that some of the things are kid appropriate and will prove helpful in explaining steps to my little boy, but in no way is this a kid book. This is definitely aimed at the mostly responsible, level headed adult with an option for a sense of adventure (but the sense to perceive danger appropriately)...
I like to look at this as a great jumping off point for fun...Many suggestions for improving your castle, yourself, crafts, and survival make for light and fun reading that is also fairly random in selection, which is right up my alley. The fun and quirky aspect of the types of "how to's" contained in this book make it less of a "textbook" and more of a novelty than I expected.
While I will treasure my copy, I did buy an additional one for emergency gift giving... This would be perfect as a graduation (high school or college) gift or even a baby gift, almost any milestone and new beginning would be a perfect occasion for this...
This would also be good as a "try one new thing every day or every week" type of personal challenge...
Only a couple gripes - despite the icon index in the back, some of the picture icons that indicate what is needed (for example, a needle and thread to hem pants) can confusing due to their small size. It would have been easier to understand if the authors had labeled the pictures directly under them, rather than having the reader refer to an index.
Also, while the book does cover a lot of practical information, it's unlikely that it would be my first source for information in the case of an emergency - best to read for fun! Enjoy!
Some of the things you may already do daily. Check the instructions anyway because it might show a more efficient method, to really exotic things you aren't like to ever do. It's a really fun book, one I've found my daughter looking at frequently. It makes a great conversation starter on a coffee table as well. There are some great "tricks" in here.
The how-tos are separated by type, and in each type you'll find a bunch of projects. I learned how to thread my eyebrows using the brief instructions in the Style chapter, and my husband is fond of the more extreme things like fending off a shark because "You don't know you need to know, until it happens!"- My daughter just seems to like the whole book.
