This book builds upon the events in the first book and brings them to a satisfying conclusion. I thouroughly enjoyed the mix of magical and non-magical warfare, characters, the epic scaled battles. Well known fantasy elements with a fresh feeling and a well explained, semi-industrial magic/lore paradigm raised and satisfied my curiosity.
Also in this sense fresh and entertaining elements included: medival lightsabers, a Gandalf with a streak of really thourough bad luck, KZ angst in a fantasy world, and some well adapted "magic: the gathering" influence.
My only, small, gripe: the last plot twist was a bit too disconnected from the story and felt unnecessary. The secret of the evermen came across as a bit bland, also stretching what might still seem logical for this world setting.
