Robot: Evolution from Mere Machine to Transcendent Mind
Robot: Evolution from Mere Machine to Transcendent Mind
von Hans P. Moravec
  Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen Go Robots GO!, 23. Juli 1999
Like danny hillis once said, if you gave me the chance to upload my brain into a robot, i'd do it in a minute. This book takes a while to get going. It takes you on a tour of the authors trevails with primitive robots. but when it hits the future, and lays our the next one hundred years, you can't help but feel excited and giddy with anticipation. I wish he spent more time on nanotechnology, but what there was was excellent. I thought I had just about read it all, but he turned many of my notions about the future inside out. a powerful vision of the future.

The Fabric of Reality: The Science of Parallel Universes and Its Implications: Towards a Theory of Everything (Allen Lane Science)
The Fabric of Reality: The Science of Parallel Universes and Its Implications: Towards a Theory of Everything (Allen Lane Science)
von David Deutsch
  Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen One of the most important theories of the last century, 23. Juli 1999
This mind bending book has an epic vision which is so clear that one wonders why it is not more generally accepted. it is an excellent mixture of physics and prognostication and technology. using classic examples, Deutch explains away many "supposed" inconsistencies associated with time travel, and his theory of parallel universes is one of the most elegant theories in physics today. As an introduction to the topic, this book is wonderful, and you will find that after lerning more physics, you will simply want to read this book over and over again, and remain amazed by the ideas contained within

Quantum Reality: Beyond the New Physics
Quantum Reality: Beyond the New Physics
von Nick Herbert
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 14,49

5.0 von 5 Sternen A fun romp through quantum physics, 23. Juli 1999
This book just flew by. It is loads of fun. That is absolutely not to imply that it is simplistic however. It is mainly concerned with the garnder implications of quantum theory, and every once in a while, one needs to indulge those urges to ask the crazy questions about this crazy theory.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Dawkins is a modern hero, 23. Juli 1999
Dawkins vs. Gouls? Give me Dawkins any day of the week. This book is heavily laced with poetry, which is a sort of proof of concept, that a book about science need not be dry or without feeling. while certainly not as important as the selfish gene, it is a nice escape. and it is utterly refreshing to read a man who really understands science elevate it with such beautiful language.

The Pinball Effect: How Renaissance Water Gardens Made Carburetor Possible - and Other Journeys: How Renaissance Water Gardens Made the Carburettor Possible and Other Journeys Through Knowledge
von James Burke
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 19,99

5.0 von 5 Sternen an invaluable historical and thought-provoking resource, 23. Juli 1999
I have been a fan of Burke's since his day the world changed series. This continues that fine tradition. I am a firm believer in his view of history as an enormous web of coincidences and ideas sparking other ideas. nothing occurs in a vaccuum, and this book provides the most interesting stories of how things actually get invented, and rarely is it ever like they teach it in a history book. cousings pulling favors and fortuitous accidents fill its pages. while the indexing scheme is gimicky, and disrupts what little flow there is to the book, it can be useful as a research guide

The Long Hard Road Out of Hell
The Long Hard Road Out of Hell
von Marilyn Manson
  Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen Very absorbing and funny account of Manson's life, 23. Juli 1999
If you ever wanted to know more about the man behind the glam, this is the book for you. Without the bs of an unauthorized biography, you can get a feel for brian warner through his own words. written with help in a very zippy and conversational style, it is hard to put down. you just want to know what he is going to say or do next. I read it in one sitting.

The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory
The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory
von Brian Greene
  Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen the best and most sweeping treatment ever encountered, 23. Juli 1999
I heard that this author was a genius in his field, but no one was sure if he could write. well, I can tell you that he certainly can. This is the most lucid, awe-inspiring treatments of the subject I have yet seen. No topic is forgotten, yet proper weight and caveats are given to all. The author never forgets that this is both an exciting and experimental new field. You really do feel like you are on the cusp of something great.
