Bocelli delivers a much better performance as Radames than one might have expected. He sings with passion and sounds like a real person, not just a slick and polished opera singer playing a role. Judge him on his own merit, and you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

Grigolo is sticking to his usual style - he may have a good voice but I find his quivering very irritating and insincere. He always sounds as if he is crying his way through every song. Fortunately, I listened to most of the songs on this cd beforehand, saving myself from spending money on buying album.

I was aware when I bought this cd/dvd release that it did not contain the complete Portofino concert but, where Andrea Bocelli is concerned, half a concert is better than no concert at all. The dvd alone is worth the price. Not only has Andrea got one of the most beautiful and intriguing voices in the world, he is also a very endearing stage performer.

I had not expected much from the cd, as it is largely a repetition of Passione, but I have listened to it and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The studio recordings include versions I have not heard before, such as 'Champan' and 'Autumn Leaves', which must have been taken from the Spanish Pasion and Amor. I also loved the live performances. 'Something Stupid' has proved to be a real gem, beautifully paced and sung with great style.

All in all, the cd exceeds my expectations and the dvd is just as delightful as I had hoped.

There are a lot of critics who will never accept Bocelli as an operatic tenor, but they also seem reluctant to acknowledge the fact that he connects with a wider audience than any other classical singer and that he has managed to inspire a lot of people to listen to opera who would never otherwise have taken an interest in this kind of music.

I find Bocelli more believable in the characters he portrays than all the technically perfect tenors who are so clearly just playing a role. What I hear in Bocelli is an artist who sounds like a real person. The beauty and the sheer romantic oomph in his voice make him a delight to listen to. This recording of 'Roméo et Juliette' is no exception. I saw Bocelli recently at 'Die Philharmonie' in Berlin, where he sang 'Ange Adorable' from Gounod's opera - pure joy!
