5.0 von 5 Sternen A must read!, 24. Juli 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Neverwhere (Taschenbuch)
Gaiman has created a world in London Below that is as fascinating as it is believable. Even the secondary characters are well defined and interesting, which is unusual in fantasy fiction.
The main character of Richard is thrust from his ordinary life into the world of London Below by a simple act of human kindness. After a rough start, he handles the challenges a lot better than most people might. Without giving too much away, I can guarantee that you will never look at London in the same way ever again! Knightsbridge and Earls Court especially. <VBG>
This book is destined to be a classic, and well worth reading two or more times in order to savor all of the details! I highly recommend this book to anyone searching for a good read with an absorbing plot, interesting characters and superior writing! Gaiman is one of my favorite writers!

Mr. X (Hors Catalogue)
Mr. X (Hors Catalogue)

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Mr. X (Hors Catalogue) (Taschenbuch)
I like thrillers. I like mysteries. I like almost anything so long as it is well-written and interesting. I did not like this book.
After reading this novel, I was left with several unanswered questions and a feeling of dissatisfied confusion. Were Ned's family the descendants of former gods and demons, or just your average psychic inbreeders? Did he have a twin brother? Who and what exactly is Mr. X? Should I care?
From reading the other posted reviews, I'm guessing that this is a book you either love or hate. I didn't care for this story, but that doesn't mean I prefer "book candy" and wouldn't know a good book if it bit me in the a**. I prefer a story with a good plot that grabs your attention and won't let go, not a story that is laid out in a confusing manner, jumps back and forth, and then abruptly ends.
My opinion is that Peter Straub needs to stop being so impressed with his talent as a writer and get back to basics. Maybe a new editor to gently coax him back into telling good stories instead of showing off. Just my two cents, but this book is not worth wasting your time.

Hot Six (Stephanie Plum Novels)
Hot Six (Stephanie Plum Novels)
von Janet Evanovich
  Gebundene Ausgabe

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not her best work, 6. Juli 2000
I was disappointed in this book and felt that Janet was just going through the motions to meet her deadline. There were scenes that served no purpose and some things were resolved too neatly to be believed.
I still get a kick out of reading about Stephanie, Ranger, and Morelli, but this wasn't one of their best outings. I wish Janet would use Lulu and Joyce Barnhardt more. After all, why have such good friends and enemies if you aren't going to use them?
While I was happy to see who had been standing at the door from the end of book five, I was not at all happy with how this one ended. Sort of takes some of the fun out of the series.
This is still a good read, but not worth the price of a hardcover. I'm hoping that book seven will be on the same level as the first five.

4.0 von 5 Sternen An interesting premise, 29. Juni 2000

This is the first book in a new series with the interesting premise that vampires have "enforcers" to keep an eye on the various nests and make sure that no vampire laws are broken. Sort of like vampire cops.
I liked the characters, and the tension between the nests was good, but for some reason this book didn't grab me the way the Anita Blake stories do.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and will read the next book in the series. I especially liked the humorous references to pop culture, such as having the enforcer be a Lakers fan and wondering where Buffy was when he needed a night off. Worth reading, but not a classic.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An enjoyable read, 29. Juni 2000
Tanya Huff is one of my favorite authors and *Summon the Keeper* is a good example why. A keeper is someone who repairs holes in the fabric of the universe and basically saves the world from being overrun by evil.
Claire, the keeper, winds up in a rundown guest house with a hellhole in the basement, a resident lusty ghost, a caretaker/cook to die for, and several interesting and unusual guests. I especially enjoyed the retired Olympians.
This is funnier than her blood series and I stayed up until three in the morning to finish it! I highly recommend this book, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will become a series.
