I have to admit that this is not a genre I read often, so the fact that I enjoyed it to the point where I unconsciously read it like a true story, says a lot.I like the easy-to-relate lines. George Martin also did a good job with characterization, dialogue and narrative. The plot is also gripping and the scope of the setting attests to the depth of the writer's imaginative mind. This book reminds me of a story The Verdict of Hades. In a nutshell, this is an accomplished piece of writing.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A riveting story, 12. Dezember 2011
I appreciate books that have unusual but interesting settings. Reading Lolita in Tehran proved to be one of such books. I wasn't disappointed when I read it to the last page. Dwelling in an atmosphere of tyranny which breeds fear, the book talks of dissent in a new political system that is against openness in arts, culture, history and dissent. In the Iran of her times, even western literature was considered anti-revolutionary by the authorities, yet people stayed determined to pay any price to be connected to the rest of the world. War and peace still left the society yearning for freedom, a craving to be free that led to the author's decision to eventually leave Iran with her family to the United States of America. Like the saga Disciples of Fortune, finding sanctuary is the goal of any parent for his/her offspring.

This is a well-written book, I would say. It grabbed my attention right from the opening chapter. It is the best novel I have read in months in the mystery genre, with true to life characters, a plot to kill for and a brilliant presentation of the story through the right mix of dialogue and narration. The convergent of the plot from multiple angles reminds me of the thriller Flash of the Sun. The amazing thing about this novel is the unique insight Connelly provided on solving cases that makes this book not only a page-turner, but also a guide on crime solving.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A cool story, 28. November 2011
Richard wrote this story on a very fascinating premise that will strike a chord with a wide range of readers, especially husbands. It brings to mind the story The Oaf. And Chekhov's The Wife. My Wife's Story flows smoothly, with the the right choice of words used, an effective dialogue an and a pointed narrative.

This mystery-thriller is plain brilliant. It is very well written and crafted around a plot that I find compelling. The setting and premise is unique and the characters are well drawn. It takes me back to Triple Agent Double Cross, which is also another story with a peculiar setting. Another attractive and fascinating thing about The Deputy is that its unfolding plot appears to hold something new and even more gripping with every new chapter. a well deserved read.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Dead or Alive (Jack Ryan) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I have had a couple of good reads over the months, but Dead or Alive capped a year of good reads. Fast-paced, well written and rich with characters that stand out on their own, Dead or Alive is a gripping read. It is best enjoyed if you have read Clancy's other works which feature some of these fascinating characters.

The setting introduces the reader to a world that many of us are not familiar with, but the plot made it so easy to settle into that I kept turning pages with little. The book reminds me of the thriller Triple Agent, Double Cross. Clancy's effective use of dialogue and narration made the plot even clear for a book of this length.

Overall, Clancy proved that he still has a lot of beautiful stories to tell, and fills us with details that few writers can come up with.

If Ngugi were to stop writing today, I would say THE WIZARD OF THE CROW crowmed his writing history as his masterpiece. The ideas in the book are broad-ranged and are brought out through characters that deep, alive and imposing. The Republic where the story is set can be any of the many Sub-Saharan countries that have been hijacked by people of the evil disposition (the local kleptocrats, blood-thirsty maniacs and their foreign backers).

WIZARD OF THE CROW says what other titles like Triple Agent Double Cross, The Beautiful Ones are not yet born, Disciples of Fortune, 1984; did not completely say. In short it brings African literature again to the spot light. I recently read The Usurper and Others, Half of a Yellow Sun. In short, there are beautiful African writings out there that are very insightful.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A recommended read, 20. März 2006
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Never Let Me Go. (Taschenbuch)
NEVER LET ME GO stands out as one of the most remarkable books I have ever read. It is difficult to say whether this book is sci-fi or plain fiction. Whatever, it is unique in the sense that it would satisfies any high-minded reader who is versed with present day developments and what could happen in the future. The lesson learnt is that the meaning of life is best achieved when we find joy, joy which comes from the soul. That joy from the soul surpasses blind faith, unsubstantiated materialism and an idealistic purpose of life that is based on discrimination. Ishiguro successfully weaved this story through characters that we can easily relate to, characters who in their pathetic states mirror man at the height of his false sense of achievement. In its portrayal of the futility of life, I got reminded of DISCIPLES OF FORTUNE, FRANKENSTEIN, UNION MOUJIKUN, CONSOLED. This is a recommended read for a deep-thinking person.
