BENFEI USB to DB9 RS232 Cable

BENFEI USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Male Cable is designed to transfer data from a PDA or digital camera. The USB to DB9 provides a connection between an available USB port and the more traditional RS-232 serial port found on many devices. This adapter is designed for connections to cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras, modems, or ISDN terminal adapters through your USB port. Simply plug your device into the adapter and the adapter into your PC or Mac. COM ports and Baud rates can be modified to desired set up.

USB 2.0 to RS-232 - Installed as a standard Windows COM port, Full RS-232 modem control signals, RS-232 data signals; TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS, DSR, DTR, DCD, RI, GND; Has male thumbscrews.

Works with devices with RS-232 serial ports: work with most GPS and PDA devices (Garmin, Mallagan, Palm), modems, printers, scanners, digital cameras and office equipment.

Works with software like HyperTerminal, TeraTerm, WinDBG, all open source serial software on Linux, etc.

  • Mac OS: MacOS X 10.6 and above (both computer and device must support macOS).

Ich benötigte einen Adapter um einen alten seriellen IR-Tower an meinem Notebook, welches keine serielle Schnittstelle aufweist, betreiben zu können.
Der Adapter kam schnell und zuverlässig und macht auch einen hochwertigen Eindruck.
Der Adapter musste unter Windows XP eingesetzt werden. Unter diesem Betriebssystem ließ er sich aber zunächst nicht installieren. Die dem Adapter beiligende Treiber-CD half auch nicht weiter, da zwar darauf u. a. ein Ordner für Windows angelegt war, dieser aber keine Treiber enthielt! Den passenden Treiber konnte ich dann erst auf der Website des Adapter-Herstellers finden! Das ist nicht gerade verbraucherfreundlich. Die Treiber-CD könnte sich somit der Hersteller sparen. Aber wenigstens konnte ich so dann den Adapter doch noch installieren und er scheint auch so zu funktionieren, wie er soll.

ich brauchte beruflich an einem modernen Notebook eine seriellen Com Port um daran einen seriellen Bondrucker anzuschließen.
Zuerst die aktuellen Treiber heruntergeladen und installiert und dann das USB Kabel eingesteckt.
Dann den seriellen Drucker angeschlossen und eingeschaltet und ... funktioniert einwandfrei.
Die serielle Geschwindigkeit wird über den Windows Device Manager eingerichtet und das wars

This product uses a PL2303TA chip, which Prolific has decided to make non-functional on Windows 11; the driver prints a message in Device Manager saying that it is an EOL part and no longer supported. However, it worked fine for a while on Windows 10, and continues to work perfectly on Linux.

Due to planned obsolescence on the part of the chip vendor, I can't in good conscience recommend the use of this or any other USB-to-serial device based on the PL2303 chip. FTDI has their own issues from their ham-fisted attempts to curb counterfeiting, so I can only hope that more CH340-based adapters become available. In the meantime, I recommend using an FTDI-based adapter.
