No. It is a word that every CEO, entrepreneur and creative professional has confronted. It is a word that both novices and seasoned professionals dread. It is a word that can easily seem like death to a dream.

And yet it is also a word that can point in the right direction. It is a word that motivates us to do something differently, try something else, get better, innovate, keep going. No is a word that looms over every business person's, innovator's, and artist's life. And yet the word is universally met with trepidation and fear because the value of being told No is so little understood.

˃˃˃ No is a facilitator

In No, No, No, No, No, Yes. Insights From A Creative Journey, award winning creator of visionary ad campaigns (Cannes Lions, Clios); ad exec (the Shalmor Avnon Amichay/Y&R agency); cartoonist (The New Yorker); speaker (TEDx); and teacher (School of Visual Arts) Gideon Amichay demonstrates that No is not a barrier to success it s a facilitator. No is not the end, but rather an essential tool for direction, motivation and innovation.

Based on Amichay s best-selling book in Israel (published by Gordon Books in 2011) and 2013 TEDx talk of the same name, No, No, No, No, No, Yes takes the reader on an illustrated journey of the author's own lifetime confrontation, negotiation and relationship with No . Walking the reader through critical No s in his own 25 year career pitching cartoons to the New Yorker, risky ad campaign concepts as head of one of Israel s biggest ad agencies, impossible outdoor ad installations -- Amichay reveals the wisdom that No rarely ends with an exclamation point.

˃˃˃ No ends with a comma

Rather, Amichay demonstrates that No usually ends with a comma:

No comma, we don't have the time. No comma, we don't have the budget. No comma, can we see another option? By discovering which No comma he was confronting, Amichay shows how No s in fact led him to eventual Yes s -- including the waiting, the rejections, and the revisions and demonstrates that No, forces us to reexamine, to explore, to rethink, to change directions, to get better.

˃˃˃ No can be the best answer to get

In No, No, No, No, No, Yes Amichay shares the essential revelation that sometimes No can be the best answer to get.

Through illuminating anecdotes from his own illustrious career running the gamut between business and the arts, Gideon Amichay demonstrates unequivocally that No's, whether from colleagues, from clients, from life, or from within have great power, and are simply directions on the map to Yes.

Authoritative, funny, whimsical, wise, and pragmatic, No, No, No, No, No, Yes. Insights From A Creative Journey. is the essential companion for every executive, innovator and artist to navigate the unavoidable odyssey of No in order to find the eventual Yes.

Gideon Amichay managed to be successful on different professional levels: cartoonist, traditional adman, digital communication expert, business man... and now also writer. That surely needs extraordinary talent and personal skills, but as his little books shows - what's even equally (if not more as current research suggests) important is persistance and passion. If he keeps pushing his ambitions for books we might even read a novel from him one day...
If you really, really want to achieve a goal, then try hard and never give up, be ardous, smart and patient. And magic can happen. Very engaging and motivating and fun to read!

HASH(0x94939bb8) von 5 Sternen Finding the Path Around the "NO" People and Their "Thousand NOs" 23. Februar 2014
Von Thomas M. Loarie - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
I was attracted to this book by its title, "No, No, No, No, No, Yes." As someone in the medical venture community that raises capital 24/7, I have had to wrestle with "the thousand Nos" over many years for each venture I have led.

I was looking forward to reading about Gideon Amichay's experience with "the thousand nos," particularly since he was a creative thought leader in advertising. When I initially paged through this relatively small book, I thought I was `the sucker of the month.' The book has some pages with print, some with very little print, and some with no print. And many pages are filled with the author's drawings, pictures, and graphics. Then, as I always do, despite first impressions, I read it.

It turned out that I was not `the sucker of the month' but, rather, I was sucker punched! I am grateful I bought the book. "No, No, No, No, No, Yes" is a profound book, one that anyone engaged in a creative endeavor will thoroughly cherish. I will be buying many copies to gave as gifts for the creative entrepreneurs I mentor and know. "No, No, No, No, No, Yes" is book about perseverance and success.

Gideon starts with the notion that innovative ideas are challenged again and again, by every conceivable "NO." This does not mean "no, give up," but rather an opportunity to find the path to "YES", a challenge that enlivens and gives meaning to life. Real success comes from engaging roadblocks, not to reacting to them. This "is here where genius emerges and flourishes."

The author goes on to explain that every "NO" is followed by a comma...No, we don't have time...No, we don't have the budget...No, is there another option? He urges us to examine, explore, and discover which "NO comma" we are dealing with. This is the crucial pathway to creativity. We should not spend time knocking down walls to overcome the "NO" as this is time-consuming and unproductive. Rather, we should use "NO" as a source of inspiration and as a catalyst to make us think about how we can walk around them. Each "NO" is a chance to learn and reinvent the future. The comma is the pause we need to think... the pause for the wisdom of not reacting in in unproductive ways.

This is a book dedicated to the destroyers of ideas. They infiltrate every field and say "NO", time after time, instead of trying to spot and discover the invisible comma. "NO" people, and "NO" comma people have always been in the way of innovation. These are the people who will put brakes on your ideas, who will try to demoralize you by looking for easy ways out, and who will wave an annoying "I told you so banner." They are the skeptics and are in the vast majority. They play it safe and remain undecided until your endeavor succeeds. Then, they will try to ride on your coattails.

To overcome these naysayers, Amichay has provided the path and inspiration to redefine "NO" by defining the will not only lead to success, but to a better a better end-result. Several examples of "No Commas" that led to great solutions and "YES" are provided.

This is a gem of book for all creatives and for all entrepreneurs. Amichay's experience and solution will resonate deeply.

HASH(0x94b7f960) von 5 Sternen Needed more content 16. Juni 2014

Format: Kindle Edition
In addition to being really short, this book never really made sense to me. I understand that one needs to persist to succeed. If you understand the preceeding sentence there is no need to buy this book. I respect the fact that the author did cartoons for the New Yorker magazine–against great odds– and gave a talk at a TED conference. But the book is entirely too vague. Some pages have only one word on them. Others have photos that are hard to see on the Kindle. I could see this book selling for $.99 but the current price is too much for the information shared in this book.

Even though the book targets creatives, as an entrepreneur I could relate a lot to Gideon's journey. Learning to turn No to Yes is part of building every successful business and it requires a certain point of view. In this wonderful book to help you get there. You get to see the world in Gideon's eyes and it is inspiring in every way. From his ad agency stories to his illustrator career, you get the insights on how his persistence and optimism helped him achieved every goal he set to himself. I find myself coming back to the book's message often in my day-to-day business - when hearing No from clients, partners, investors. It's a quick but powerful motivational read!

Amichay has a brilliant idea and a wonderful sense of humor. His story gives so much depth to his idea of persevering. His creative genius pops out on every page. It is a pleasure to read ad it makes you think. After I finished the book, my Mom grabbed it. I heard my wise Mom laughing in the living room, anxious to read aloud and show me what gave her so much pleasure. Simply, the reader won't put be able to put ithis book down. You only wish there were more stories and more drawings and more. This man is talented. Whether it is the cartoon of the artist reaching the top of the mountain or the anti-drunk driving ad or the story of the fridge becoming a museum for children, each image stays in your mind. I can't wait for more.

This is an inspirational book that proves, once again, that dreams can come true - but it takes hard work and determination. The book tells the story of one man's journey towards his dream. Life will swing at you a thousand "NO"s - but you shouldn't give up - because there IS a "yes" along the line if you try hard enough.

The book is full of the author's life stories and experiences, all tasetfully accompanied by his own drawings. It is a pleasure to the eyes and heart!
