"A sexy, magical romp, sure to bring de la Cruz a legion of new fans."―Kelley Armstrong, New York Times bestselling author of The Otherworld series

From the author of the highly addictive and bestselling Blue Bloods series, with almost 3 million copies sold, comes a new novel, Melissa de la Cruz's first for adults, featuring a family of formidable and beguiling witches.

The three Beauchamp women-Joanna and her daughters Freya and Ingrid-live in North Hampton, out on the tip of Long Island. Their beautiful, mist-shrouded town seems almost stuck in time, and all three women lead seemingly quiet, uneventful existences. But they are harboring a mighty secret-they are powerful witches banned from using their magic. Joanna can resurrect people from the dead and heal the most serious of injuries. Ingrid, her bookish daughter, has the ability to predict the future and weave knots that can solve anything from infertility to infidelity. And finally, there's Freya, the wild child, who has a charm or a potion that can cure most any heartache.

For centuries, all three women have been forced to suppress their abilities. But then Freya, who is about to get married to the wealthy and mysterious Bran Gardiner, finds that her increasingly complicated romantic life makes it more difficult than ever to hide her secret. Soon Ingrid and Joanna confront similar dilemmas, and the Beauchamp women realize they can no longer conceal their true selves. They unearth their wands from the attic, dust off their broomsticks, and begin casting spells on the townspeople. It all seems like a bit of good-natured, innocent magic, but then mysterious, violent attacks begin to plague the town. When a young girl disappears over the Fourth of July weekend, they realize it's time to uncover who and what dark forces are working against them.

With a brand-new cast of characters, a fascinating and fresh world to discover, and a few surprise appearances from some of the Blue Blood fan favorites, this is a page-turning, deliciously fun, magical summer read fraught with love affairs, witchcraft, and an unforgettable battle between good and evil.

If you have seen the series: DO NOT buy this book, 'cause you will be disappointed missing Wendy and surprised that the stories differ like herbal tea and White Russian.
If you have not seen the series: Read and enjoy OR: Watch the series and read Anne Rice.

HASH(0x984283f0) von 5 Sternen Reading with Tequila 29. April 2011

I had a good feeling about Witches of East End when reading the synopsis and while I had high hopes for this book, it was so much more amazing than I could have possibly expected. The characters, the magic, the mythology, everything clicked perfectly. The pages flew by as I read, utterly entranced by the easy tone of the novel.

The Witches of East End, Joanna, Ingrid and Freya, were wonderful characters. I love a good witch novel, but even without powers, I would have fallen in love with these women. Freya's fun nature, Ingrid's love of knowledge and Joanna's loving kindness all shone well beyond their magical abilities. Not to discount the magic, though, as there was much of that as the novel moved forward.

Not everything is as it seems in Witches of East End and readers with a love of mythology will be particularly delighted. My knowledge of Norse mythology is rusty and I found myself only recognizing a name here and there. Nonetheless, even those who've even learned anything about Norse mythology will love the the way the myths are woven into the story.

Witches of East End blew me away. It's a paranormal mystery of sorts that includes just the right amount of romance - enough to make the reader root for certain couples, but not too much as to distract from the overall plot. Melissa de la Cruz has crossed over to writing for adults beautifully here and I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see what's next for the Beauchamps and the rest of the East End residents.

HASH(0x98387f90) von 5 Sternen Interesting Read 14. Juli 2011

You can't use your gift...but we can't really stop you either.

Sound interesting? It was to me. I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into Witches of East End. The story is written with fluidity and moves at a quick pace. The blurb snagged me immediately and, once opened, I couldn't put it down. Ms. de la Cruz has characters that are intriguing. I wanted to know what would happen next. Ms. de la Cruz puts a new spin on mythology and witches. I really enjoyed the telling.

The characters are what hampered the story for me. Joanna has a lot of potential. As the matriarch, she's got power and standing. I liked her subplot. Man, I want to see her get her man. At the same time, she fell into grandma mode more than once and I wanted to see her have more spunk. She has a gift that's out of this world. I hope she gets a story down the line.

Then there's Freya. Honestly, I had some serious reservations with her. Granted, the epilogue totally kicks the end of the story, including her, onto it's rump, but there were too many moments I wanted to smack her on the head. She makes decisions that I had a hard time dealing with and was really hard pressed to find reasons to cheer for her.

Last but not least, there's Ingrid. She was my favorite character because, above all else, she's out to help people. No agendas, no secrets, just helping. But like her mother and sister, she's got moments when she's a little less spunky and a little more meek. There's so much potential for her, but sometimes she just doesn't use it.

Still, there's a lot going on in this book. The mythology really spins along, keeping the reader firmly in his or her seat. This book is certainly one paranormal fans won't want to miss. There's suspense, mystery, romance, and a neat little HEA that you won't want to pass up. Grab a copy of Witches of East End. It's a good read.

I had high hopes for this book based on the reviews. I love books about witches and mythology, so this should have been a perfect fit. I loved the setting, being a Long Islander myself (not a Lawn Guylander as the author amusingly pointed out.) The first half of the book was intriguing. The writing was evocative. The Beauchamp women are mysterious and I wanted to know more about them. What's the story with the Gardiners? Are they who they seem to be? A steamy love triangle develops and I found the book hard to put down. Then it all hit the wall. The reveal is SO ridiculous that it broke my heart. I wanted to go find the author and ask if she was kidding. If you know anything about Norse mythology you will be appalled by this book. It makes no sense in the end. I felt as though I was reading two different novels that somehow got swapped midstream. Save yourself. Don't read it!

I got up to page 10 where the author spends 2 FULL PARAGRAPHS talking about Freya's breasts. I got to the term "fun bags" and had to close the book and go throw up.
