"Fans of The Lunar Chronicles and new readers alike will be delighted ... beloved worlds and characters have smoothly transitioned into graphic format, and a thorough character introduction and quick recap will help new readers feel right at home... Energetic and entertaining with the right balance of action, humor, and romance. Though Iko is the main protagonist, all of the major characters from the series are brought and employed wisely... Holgate's dynamic yet monochromatic artwork supplements the snappy dialogue and captures the characters' personalities and mannerisms beautifully." VOYA, starred review

"A mash-up of fairy tales and science fiction...a cross between Cinderella, Terminator, and Star Wars."--Entertainment Weekly

"Prince Charming among the cyborgs."--The Wall Street Journal

"Terrific."--Los Angeles Times

"Marissa Meyer rocks the fractured fairy tale genre."--The Seattle Times

"A binge-reading treat."--MTV

"Takes the classic to a whole new level."--NPR

"Meyer focuses on Iko, Cinder's cheeky sidekick and an assassin agent sent to hunt down the wolf-soldier hybrids that are plaguing Earth. Unlike some of the previous novels, this story doesn't require preexisting knowledge of the series, easily catching up fans and new readers alike with capsule introductions to Cress and other members of the Rampion crew in a prologue. Iko is an entertainingly flippant yet formidable heroine, a former servant droid who now inhabits an escort's body and takes on bloodthirsty enemies as though she were invincible. ... Holgate's dynamic, stylized artwork handily balances the story's action and humor while bringing Meyer's world to vivid life."--Publishers Weekly

"The Lunar Chronicles continue in this entertaining graphic novel sequel to the existing volumes. This follow-up to the futuristic fairy-tale retellings centers on Iko, cyborg mechanic Cinder's best friend. Acclimating to her human body, the android is trying to help Queen Cinder of Luna ease tensions with Earth by hunting down rogue wolf-hybrid soldiers who were once enslaved by Cinder's evil stepmother and have now been banished to the green planet. Joined by other familiar characters (Cress, Winter, Thorne), loyal Iko defends the new queen against her enemies. Fans will be able to jump easily into this narrative and will welcome the protagonist's humorous commentary and the friends' camaraderie. Newcomers will be helped by a prologue that introduces all of the main characters and flashbacks that are sprinkled throughout. This first volume in a duology is split into seven chapters, each action-packed and fast-paced. The romantic tension building up between Iko and a protective royal guard not only is juicy but also speaks to deeper themes--humanity, loyalty, prejudice, sovereignty, and more. The blue and white monochromatic art lends itself well to the setting: a futuristic Earth and the Lunar kingdom. VERDICT The diverse cast, the charming dialogue, and the clean design make this sci-fi fantasy sequel a must-have for graphic novel and YA collections." --School Library Journal

It's no secret that I love the Lunar Chronicles and this world the Meyer built. So of course, I hit that preorder button on Amazon faster than Usain Bolt crossing that finish line when this book popped up. I don't really know what I was expecting when I went in - most likely more adorable interactions with my faves - but what I got was Iko: Super Spy. And it was okay.

Wires and Nerves takes place after Winter with Lunar and Earth trying to come to a trustworthy alliance. Cinder is on the verge of abdicating her throne in favor of a more republic government but before she can do that, she must eradicate the rogue lunar soldiers still hiding out on Earth. With the Earthern people still wary of Lunars and unwilling to accept help, Cinder sends Iko to track down these packs and bring them back to Luna.

I really enjoyed getting to see everyone again and see how they are adapting to their new roles. And while we did get to see everyone, I was a little let down by the whole thing. First with Iko. Now I love Iko. Throughout the series she was always a constant source of humor, love, and bravery. And while I enjoyed reading a whole book from her point of view, I feel that she works better as a side character. It's not that she's not interesting, because she is. But I don't know if holding her own was the best thing.

The story itself was good but still felt a little lacking. I think this is because I'm so used to Meyer's descriptive writing and we didn't get that here since it was a graphic novel and I missed those little touches. Because of this parts of the story felt rushed and the characters played differently off of each other.

Lastly was the artwork itself. I wasn't too impressed. It felt a little childish considering the themes. With so much fan art out there, I think I got spoiled seeing other people's interpretations of the characters. And was I the only one a little creeped out by the Wolf and Scarlet drawings? I mean, I get that he's named Wolf for a reason, but I never pictured him that wolfish. It was just weird to me.

That being said, I'm sad we have to wait until next year to get the continuation. Because let's be honest, there's no way I'm not going to read anything Meyer puts out.
4.0 von 5 Sternen Pretty Good Read, Even if You Don't Typically Read Graphic Novels 28. Mai 2017

That was the first graphic novel that I have read. For something in The Lunar Chronicles world I was willing to try something new. It was pretty good but I was through it quickly. The characters seemed a little less themselves, a little more rigid. I figured this was partially due to it being a graphic novel? The art work was really nice and the story line was interesting.

This graphic novel centers around our favorite android Iko. It could be a stand alone for someone who hasn't read The Lunar Chronicles but it goes well reading after the series. The book picks up soon after Winter ends but before some of the short stories. It somewhat fills in some holes. In the first several pages we learn a bit about the world and the characters (enough that like I mentioned above you could pick up and read this first). Iko is a strong escort-droid (android) woman who has been sent to gather up the remaining mutated wolf army from Queen Levana which have been wreaking havoc on the Earthen Union. There is a rise up against though and things become difficult for all of the characters. All of our favorites are featured in this graphic novel but not necessarily together. It ends on a cliff hanger and it's a bit disappointing to have to wait until next January for the next but for those who are wondering if it's worth reading do it! I don't typically read anything like this but it was worth learning about a new writing style!

So i read all the other books and loved them! So I couldn't wait to keep reading after finishing winter. I ordered this one and I'm not gonna lie didn't realize it was a graphic novel and not like the others. I gave it a chance though because like I said I love the books. I love the characters and I miss them. But reading this killed the whole story. You can't get a real feel of the characters personalities. It just reads so dry. Her characters have such original interesting personalities in the other books but this you don't get that. It disappointed me. She could've totally gotten another short book out of ikos story like she did with Levanas. I guess it appeals to a different group of readers. But im sad and disappointed. Winter was especially disappointing her original personality didn't come through at all to me and Thorne. He was such a witty slightly inappropriate character and this nope kinda dry and boring. I don't think I'm going to be reading any of the ones after this. No more graphic novels for me.

The Lunar Chronicles series is one of my all-time favorites and I am super excited that Marissa Meyer is continuing to explore the world through graphic novels. Iko is such a fantastic character and I liked the way the plot allowed her to take center stage. She is kickass and determined to complete her mission while also still being boy crazy and fashion-obsessed which is fun. Of course, I loved seeing the rest of the main characters from the Lunar Chronicles and how they are dealing with the many changes that occurred at the end of that series. The artwork was really intriguing and I was easily able to follow the story. I am excited to see what Meyer has in store for Iko, Kinney, and everybody else.

I love The Lunar Chronicles, and this graphic novel is a perfect addition to an already fantastic series! I can't wait to read the second one when it comes out next year.
All of our favorite characters are back, and they are brought to life with the illustrations. Those illustrations are awesome, and being a fan of the series, it is nice to see what exactly Marissa Meyer had in mind when she created the characters. It's quite close to what I dreamed up in my mind when reading the novels.
I love this book and all the rest in the series, so I can't recommend them enough, but I still will till the end of time!
