Kurzbeschreibung

She's got nothing left to lose …

With her fiancé suddenly engaged to another and her reputation in tatters, Merribeth Wakefield needs a bold plan to reclaim her life. She must be brave. Confident. She must … kiss a rake? The suggestion is ludicrous! Yet when Merribeth finds herself alone with the dark and brooding Lord Knightswold, suddenly the plan doesn't seem so farfetched. So she does something she never thought she'd do—she kisses him.

But he has everything to gain …

The Marquess of Knightswold—Bane to most—has no use for the affections of women. Well, none lasting longer than a single night. A plot for revenge weighs heavy on his mind, leaving no room for romance. But then a shy, witty miss borrows a kiss from him in a darkened room, and everything he thought he knew about innocent debutantes vanishes along with her.

When a twist of fate brings Merribeth within Bane's grasp, he'll have to resist her charms—or risk losing everything—for the sake of his heart.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Ms. Lorret, More Please! FAST! 16. Juni 2014
Von Book Maven - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Miss Merribeth Wakefield's almost fiance has just broken up with her after a five year "understanding". This development has tarnished her reputation, but Lady Eve Sterling has just the remedy: Kiss a rake. That rake turns out to be Bane, the Marquess of Knightswold. Bane is determined not to marry. He has only one thing on his mind: Revenge . . . and Miss Wakefield? Maybe there are two things on his mind now that he has met his Venus.

The ending of this book is the most romantic scenario I have ever read! This author gives us the most beautiful romance wrapped up with drama, humor and mystery. This intriguing plot keeps the reader flipping the pages with eager anticipation, while also making the reader want to savor every moment. Lorret's characters are unique, fun and complex. The H and h are perfect for each other. Every encounter sizzles. The author gives us the understanding needed to fully relate to all the characters, the good and the bad. The dialogue makes one want to join in, too. Vivienne Lorret is my new favorite romance author. We need more of her wonderful stories!

Merribeth is practically ruined after her beau of five years deserts her for another. A friend puts it in her head kissing a rake would help her be more confident. If only that rake weren't Lord Knightswold. He truly is irresistable, yet he's determined to remain a bachelor and never have an heir. Bane, aka Lord Knightswold, can't seem to stay away from Merribeth. So, he'll help her lure her ex back by teacher her to flirt.
Merribeth just wants to be herself and not worry about what the Ton thinks. Though she didn't truly want her ex back she felt it was the only way to save herself. She has a true strength and fun wit that kept me attached to her story from beginning to end. In this story Bane is the willful one. Yet he's so charming and caring that it's easily overlooked for this handsome Lord. Merribeth and Bane gravitate to each other throughout the story whether intentional or not. Their attraction is explosive and undeniable.
If you enjoy a super steamy historical romance with an unlikely couple I recommend Winning Miss Wakefield.

2.0 von 5 Sternen I'm in the minority again 30. Juli 2014
Von Irisrose - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Slow moving and ridiculously contrived. Merribeth's reputation is at stake over a betrothal that never existed (and no one knew about) and must make her recalcitrant beau jealous to bring him up to snuff. If she can't do this, why still be outcast forever. That first kiss with Bane, the rake, was the first warning that I'd have trouble with this story. There are conniving family members, house parties, and all sorts of silly situations. Too much of rumination going on. Lots of telling instead of showing. I didn't like anyone in this story, although Bane had promise for a couple of chapters. This author's style is not for me. I didn't finish it.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Winning Miss Wakefield 17. Juni 2014
Von Lily - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Merribeth Wakefield's five year relationship with Mr. Clairmore came to a halt when he informed Merribeth that he was madly in love with the vicar's daughter; Mr. Clairmore had never actually stated that he and Merribeth would marry but everyone, including Merribeth, had felt that it was a sure thing. The worst part of the whole incident was that everyone seemed to think it was her fault. Merribeth's Aunt Sophie had a friend, Lady Eve Sterling, who offered to sponsor Merribeth for a season-to show that Merribeth had nothing to hide. But does Eve have ulterior motives? Merribeth meets the Marquess of Knightswold, Bane, Eve's nephew, at one of the balls she attends when she went to hide in the study. She has heard of Bane's reputation but she does something out of character; she kisses him. Bane is more than intrigued with this woman. When Eve holds a house party, she invites Sophie and Merribeth; also Bane, for two weeks. Eve makes a wager with Bane; he must not leave before the two weeks, he must participate in all events and he must abstain from sex during the time period. For this she would give him information that would help him find the man responsible for the murder of his parents. Bane has had a plot for revenge since his grandfather's death; he has also vowed never to have an heir-the family name would die with him. Bane accepted the bet but he didn't know about Merribeth's presence at the house party or the intense sexual attraction they would experience for each other. And Eve will do what she can to win the bet. Sensual, romantic and a good ending.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Probably Best To Read This Series In Order 6. Juli 2014
Von Judge Tabor - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

In my opinion, I think it is best to read the first book in the series before reading this one. Tempting Mr. Weatherstone: A Wallflower Wedding Novella (Originally appeared in the e-book anthology FIVE GOLDEN RINGS) (Wallflower Wedding Series) is apparently the first book, however, since it was a novella it is designated as book #0.5. Next in the series was Daring Miss Danvers: The Wallflower Wedding Series Book #1. Actually, I could never find the order of the books by looking on Amazon since the books don't appear to be numbered along with the titles. I checked on Goodreads to find the series order. Since I had not read the first books in the series before I delved into this one, perhaps I was at a bit of a disadvantage because I felt a wee bit lost.

This characters in this book and I never really clicked. The story seemed rather contrived, some parts lacked believability and the three pages spent dealing with the color of embroidery thread had me "losing" the thread of the storyline. Sorry, just didn't enjoy this book. I didn't find the heroine interesting - the hero, yes - but again, their initial meeting was just really. not. captivating... I couldn't find myself caring about the H/h and their relationship. I might go back and give the first books in this series a whirl and perhaps I will better understand the elements driving the characters' lives and thoughts in this book.
