2.0 von 5 Sternen No Confidence In This Book 19. August 2013
Von John Myers - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
The author does a wonderful job of telling you which chapters cover which objectives and exams. However, the material is all mixed together, so you have to cherry pick what parts to read or just read all 900+ pages at once. I only want to focus on exam 70-410, but have to worry about cramming too much in by reading stuff from other exams. Very inconvenient and doubles the work. I finished reading the parts I needed, took the practice test, and failed. I blame most of this on my busy life and difficulty finding time to read. However, there were a few questions not covered by the book, which is odd.

I think for exam 70-410, there's enough material to pass, but I can't see how the other two exams are covered. By my calculation, approximately 600 of those 900+ pages were dedicated to 70-410, so how do the other 300+ pages contain new info for two more advanced exams? I'd skip this one, or just use it as a reference for your job.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good source for concepts in server 2012, but does not help whatsoever in actual exam preparation for the MCSA. 14. Juni 2015
Von CustomerXYZ - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
First of all let me state that while the book is good at introducing MS Server 2012 and teaching you the basics. "IT WILL NOT PREPARE YOU FOR THE MCSA EXAM." You will have to use this book in conjunction with some other materials as the question format on the Actual MS 2012 exam is way way different. The exam is way more hands on lab-like etc. Drag and drop.

This book's tests and exams in no way prepare you for the real exam. Yes it gives you a decent platform in formulating the concepts and ideas that you need for the exam. Doing well on the practice tests in the book is like running on a treadmill, thinking that you'll be able to run like an Olympian on a real track, and only to be rudely awakened by wind resistance, loads friction, bad weather etc.

I would highly recommend installing MS 2012 and exploring it a lot before your exam. The other reviews stating that this book helped them pass their MCSA exam I would question that if I were you. I really like this author as he's helped me get certified in other exams but this fell short of the mark.

Overall it is a good book for understanding the concepts but way off in terms of actual exam preparation. I hope my redundancy in this review really helped you understand that you need way more than this book to pass the exam.

Cheers,
Horace

2.0 von 5 Sternen Terrible Study material 11. Juni 2014
Von Adam Jay - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
For such a large book, intended to cover substantial exam material I must say that after failing the 70-410 I truly have myself to blame - for buying only this book. I took it on faith that this book would be a concise guide with all the essential material and walk-throughs to pass - it's not and it doesn't. I've never failed an MS test before [I've held, MCP, MCDST, MCSA, MCSE] but this was different. With previous exams I studied the Microsoft published books, and the books actually covered all the material you'd take on the particular test. Even the CCNA Sybex book has all the material you need to pass [I was previously CCNA certified as well]. This book is a cluster of information, overlapping different tests into the same chapters. Ok - well it's easy enough to filter that info and assume there is no worry that 70-411/412 material will be on the 410 test. WRONG. There were questions on my test that I now see were in the 411/412 areas of chapters. Do not assume it's safe to skip chapter material because it's reserved for another test - you may be tested on it!
Know power-shell like a boss and learn to work in it for everything before attempting the exam. One question on the test asked was to 'establish port mirroring via powershell for a hyper-v switch'. This wasn't even covered in the 410 material. There were questions regarding network load balancing and configuring HBA SAN access via hyper-v - again, not covered in the 410 areas.
I think it's great Microsoft has difficult tests to actually prove administrator ability, clearly I'm not yet worthy of 2012 MCSA but I think I'll give it a shot again after spending more money on a few other sources of material than settling on one "COMPLETE STUDY GUIDE" again.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not for prepping for the exams 23. Januar 2014
Von Eric Steinberg - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This book was not what it was advertised to be. I was totally un prepared for the exam or they types of questions asked. Half of the practice exercises are not meant for a virtualized system. If you get the 180 day trial of Windows server 2012 it is one license for one piece of hardware, but you can virtualize it. He didn't discuss virtualization, until I was deep in to resolving the Hyper-V set ups myself.
He stops short often on many of the exercises, felt like he had lost his trend of thought or something. It is best to try another book like the Microsoft 70-410, 411, and 412 series books. I wasted my money.

2.0 von 5 Sternen What a disappointment 23. August 2014
Von Jan Cernocky - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I have bought the book recently to support my study for Win 2012 exams. I am currently studying for 70-411 and thought this book would help me a lot to pass the exam. I was told that Sybex books are generally a good choice.

What a disappointment it was! Although the book looks quite comprehensive it barely covers some of the exam objectives. I wouldn't definitely call it a "complete study guide". Some examples? WDS? - covered on 4 pages where 1 of them is just wdsutil command parameters, DirectAccess? - described on less than 3 pages! This is simply not enough. It may be helpful for some other exams, but won't help you that much for some topics of 70-411. I've got yet MS official academic course and every topic is described in detail on 30-40 pages there.

I was also waiting for the R2 update which should have been released in 09 or 10/2014 but they postponed it to December.

I was really disappointed and regret I didn't get the Win 2012 inside out by W. Stanek
I have also ordered the CompTIA Security+ guide from Sybex and I hope this will be much better.
