I think for exam 70-410, there's enough material to pass, but I can't see how the other two exams are covered. By my calculation, approximately 600 of those 900+ pages were dedicated to 70-410, so how do the other 300+ pages contain new info for two more advanced exams? I'd skip this one, or just use it as a reference for your job.
This book's tests and exams in no way prepare you for the real exam. Yes it gives you a decent platform in formulating the concepts and ideas that you need for the exam. Doing well on the practice tests in the book is like running on a treadmill, thinking that you'll be able to run like an Olympian on a real track, and only to be rudely awakened by wind resistance, loads friction, bad weather etc.
I would highly recommend installing MS 2012 and exploring it a lot before your exam. The other reviews stating that this book helped them pass their MCSA exam I would question that if I were you. I really like this author as he's helped me get certified in other exams but this fell short of the mark.
Overall it is a good book for understanding the concepts but way off in terms of actual exam preparation. I hope my redundancy in this review really helped you understand that you need way more than this book to pass the exam.
Know power-shell like a boss and learn to work in it for everything before attempting the exam. One question on the test asked was to 'establish port mirroring via powershell for a hyper-v switch'. This wasn't even covered in the 410 material. There were questions regarding network load balancing and configuring HBA SAN access via hyper-v - again, not covered in the 410 areas.
I think it's great Microsoft has difficult tests to actually prove administrator ability, clearly I'm not yet worthy of 2012 MCSA but I think I'll give it a shot again after spending more money on a few other sources of material than settling on one "COMPLETE STUDY GUIDE" again.
He stops short often on many of the exercises, felt like he had lost his trend of thought or something. It is best to try another book like the Microsoft 70-410, 411, and 412 series books. I wasted my money.
What a disappointment it was! Although the book looks quite comprehensive it barely covers some of the exam objectives. I wouldn't definitely call it a "complete study guide". Some examples? WDS? - covered on 4 pages where 1 of them is just wdsutil command parameters, DirectAccess? - described on less than 3 pages! This is simply not enough. It may be helpful for some other exams, but won't help you that much for some topics of 70-411. I've got yet MS official academic course and every topic is described in detail on 30-40 pages there.
I was also waiting for the R2 update which should have been released in 09 or 10/2014 but they postponed it to December.
I was really disappointed and regret I didn't get the Win 2012 inside out by W. Stanek
I have also ordered the CompTIA Security+ guide from Sybex and I hope this will be much better.
