I put up my first bird feeder this winter after seeing a few North Carolina Chickadees hanging out on a bush near my office window. I bought the bird feeder from a local hardware store and bought this bird feed when I saw a picture of a Chickadee on the packaging. It took the birds about 2 days to find the feeder. Since then, I have a variety of birds that show up every day for several hours a day. My feeder is geared toward smaller birds and I have seen multiple species including: NC Chickadee, Eastern Blue bird, Carolina Wren, House Finch, Downy Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse, White Breasted Nuthatch, and an Eastern Towhee (I haven't got a good picture of the Towhee yet). The birds seem to love the food and nothing goes to waste. Most of the time I will see a variety of birds sharing the food but sometimes they don't play as nice!
I feel like the pail makes storing and distributing the feed much easier than the bagged feed. Once the pail is empty you can either refill it (from the bagged feed since it is a tab bit cheaper) or find 1 of the 1001 uses for the empty pail.
I'll be a repeat buyer of this bird feed.
When it was time for a refill the price on this seed was about double what I originally paid (typical price fluctuation on Amazon). So I ended up purchasing: Lyric Fruit & Nut High Energy Wild Bird Seed Mix - 20 lb bag.
While it is definitely good seed as well be aware that the pieces are much larger than the Wild Delight brand. The Lyric has some full size peanuts and cashews. In my feeder, gear toward smaller birds, some of the pieces were probably a bit large for the feeder and the birds that normally visit the feeder. (see images for size comparison; quarters added for size reference and not a "cracker jack" surprise!)
In case anyone is wondering, if you wish to refill the Wild Delight bucket it will hold a 20 lb bag with about 3/4" from the top rim to spare! (See posted image)
Perky-Pet 325S Panorama Bird Feeder Feeder which handles the pieces of fruit pretty well.
I would estimate the waste at 100lbs of food to 3lbs of waste. This includes cleanup by squirrels, ground based birds and Frank the opossum (long story) if he happens to he wander by. I have seen 8-9 birds just on one feeder, in a rainbow of species.
