Kurzbeschreibung

A girl.
A coma.
A life she can't remember.

When Emma Walker wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of how she got there, she learns that she's been in a coma for six months. Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can't remember them. She can't remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can't remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the 'old her' makes her start to wish she'd never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he's dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital.

Will she ever feel like she recognizes the girl in the mirror?

"The coma was a liar. It gave everyone the false sense of security that she'd come back, but she was gone and I wasn't her. No one here, or my parents, or anyone, got to mourn Emmie. They all assumed she'd come back one day or die in that bed the way they remembered her. But I took her place and I didn't belong." [Kindle: 42%]

I've read other books from Mrs. Crane, absolutely fell in love with them and her writing style. For me, on this one in particular, it didn't have that special *Oomph* her books usually have.

Its not a bad read, it is different from the other stuff I've read from her. The characters are not like the other characters, at all. So its not that. (Like how some Authors other Characters tend to blend into "New" books or other series bleed into "New" series.) I have no other way to explain what I'm trying to say. It just really didn't have that "Shelly Crane spark" I've grown to love. I feel so bad for saying that, especially after what she tells us in the credits (at the back of the book.) But I think that she would want honesty instead of flattery. And believe me you, I'm a BIG Shelly Crane fan.

Onto the book. Emma has an "accident" that lands her into a coma. Then she awakes only to find out she has amnesia! What? I know right, I felt so bad for her! She struggles to connect with her family, while getting to know her 'old self' and processing her 'new self.' Everyone wants her to be someone she doesn't know, doesn't like, and who she isn't anymore.

During her stay at a local Hospice/hospital. Her hazel eyed, physical therapist- Mason. Comes to aide her back to health. I personally loved him and how Mrs. Crane constructed him. His life story was breathe taking. It really added to the book.

Andy (boyfriend) isn't taking things very lightly. He wants HIS version of the girl Emma used to be. He goes to great lengths to have her, one last time. Andy's overall story was... really *bleep*ed up. We don't go into great detail or much of it, until the end.

The twists and emotional journeys throughout this book are consuming. If you've read anything previous to this book (of Mrs. Cranes) you might like it. Her writing flow stays fast paced (like her previous books.) The plot and overall concept is extremely intriguing. The Characters (for the most part) are heartfelt.
5.0 von 5 Sternen A Meaningful Love Story of Heartache & Triumph 20. April 2013

Shelly Crane has made a career of creating phenomenal books that both entertain and inspire.
Wide Awake is the type of story that draws you in, tears you down, and then lifts you up higher than you were before. The beginning paragraphs are carefully crafted to pique your curiosity, but the story very quickly becomes a heartbreaking tale of forgotten memories, a desperate pursuit of hope, and an unwavering perseverance.

The main character, Emma, is so fully developed that readers are able to relate and emphasize with her. Crane yet again did such a fantastic job of creating a protagonist with a young adult personality that faces adult problems. Her books reflect real life in the sense that all young adults must inevitably begin transitioning into new stages of their lives because of real life, mature situations that they encounter. Crane fosters an environment where readers are able to enjoy the innocence of a story while still being exposed to themes of hardship, trials, and heartache.

The "book boyfriend" here is Mason, and he fulfills his job very well. Mason is everything readers want him to be. He is charming, kind, and funny; however, most importantly, he is imperfect. Mason made mistakes before readers met him and throughout the course of the plot, and he must learn to grow and face his demons- even if he is the one who mentally created them.

Mason is not an unmoving, unchanging rock that Emma is able to cling to while the plot progresses. Instead, they must both grow- individually and together. This creates a beautiful relationship that readers can swoon over and admire.

Ultimately, this is a story about having faith in yourself, triumphing over obstacles, and realizing that sometimes life will bring you down. The important part is not how low it takes you, but how far you can bring yourself back up.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Wide Awake, Truly Wonderful and Inspirational 19. Januar 2014
Von Julia - The Romance Bibliophile - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

"Wide Awake" was one of the most amazing books that I have read in quite awhile. It was absolutely wonderful and I would happily give it TEN stars if I could. I truly thought the story line was unique and very intriguing, and it wasn't one that I have come across before, which was a nice change. The main characters, Emma and Mason, were absolutely fantastic and I couldn't have asked for better ones. All in all, this was truly an awe-inspiring and inspirational YA novel that I would recommend to everyone. Shelly Crane did a phenomenal job creating this incredible novel, and I'm ecstatic to read more in the Wide Awake Series!

5.0 von 5 Sternen SHELLY CRANE DOES IT AGAIN! 19. Mai 2013

Wow! I just finished Wide Awake after staying up almost all night to read it and I am once again in awe of one of my most favorite authors. What a great story! To be honest I wasn't sure if i was going to enjoy it when I read the synopsis. I knew it was so different from her Significance and Collide series (both of which I ADORE) and at first I thought it might not hold my interest - a girl loses her memory of her life before her accident. But boy was I WRONG! From the first page this book sucked me right in. I fell in love with Emma, her strength and her will to overcome her situation and her ability to be able to speak her mind and follow her own decisions, even if they differed from those of her family and friends. And Mason. I love Mason. He is amazing and just a truly good guy. These characters really came to life for me and when I did have to put the book down, I couldn't seem to stop thinking about them. Even now that i am done they are still very much on my mind. And to me, that is one of the best things and a sign of a great story. I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to risk spoiling anything but I will just say I love this book so much and very highly recommend it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Never disappointed with a Shelly Crane book 19. April 2013

The Characters

Emma is our main female character and she is someone that I think I would have hated in high school. Well, at least the Emma pre-accident. She appeared to be a stuck-up, snobby, only-concerned-with-appearances girl. I feel so much anxiety for her though as she wakes up to a world she doesn't know. I feel such pain for her that she is expected to pick up her life where it left off and she doesn't even know what and where that was. I feel so much joy for her as she finds her true self. Emma redeems herself huge in my book throughout this book. She realizes who she is and who she wants to be. She also realizes what her old life was all about and that she wants nothing to do with that. I give her credit because she tried to be the person they all wanted her to be. I give her more credit for being the person she wants to be.

Mason is an amazing, loving, and caring man. He seems so genuine and real from the moment you meet him in this book. I had some doubts about his behaviors from time to time but I kept bringing myself back to the fact that he just seems to be inherently good. What you find out about Mason breaks my heart. He is truly a man that looks out for others and gives before getting in so many ways. The things he does for his mother, his brother, and then Emma make him out to be one of the best book boyfriends I have ever come across. Leave it to Shelly to totally mess with my book boyfriends top 10 list! Mason is a gem and one that is perfect for Emma. He works at making her happy and giving her the things she needs to blossom into the person she is supposed to be.

My thoughts

Well, if you haven't figured it out yet, I loved this book. You can add this on to my 5 stars on the Shelly Crane book list. Wide Awake had me from the beginning. I read this book in a day because I couldn't put it down. I love Shelly Crane's work because it always gets me thinking. I remember even small details about this book even today (almost a month after reading it) because of the great detail and Shelly's ability to describe the story to you. I can picture Emma's hospital room, her house, Mason's car, and so much more. As far as the thinking though, this book had me thinking what it would be like to lose my memory. Would I be proud of who I am or would I be embarrassed as Emma is about what my life is about.

Definitely grab this book if you haven't yet. I have yet to hear of anyone who doesn't like this book and I am sure you will agree that it is a beautifully written, fantastic read.
