""Design veterans Schlatter and Levinson see a lot of digital applications that either look great or are highly functional, but not both, and contend that it does have to be that way. Drawing on heuristics and best practices from a variety of languages and disciplines, they explain how anyone involved in creating digital interfaces can define and defend a rationale for design decisions."--""Reference & Research Book News, " October 2013

""With Tania Schlatter and Deborah Levinson at the helms, both proven experts in their fields, the book visually takes you through all the various aspects of user experience design This book is a pleasant surprise, and a joy to read."--""Actual Insights blog, " October 26, 2013 ""Design veterans Schlatter and Levinson see a lot of digital applications that either look great or are highly functional, but not both, and contend that it does have to be that way. 5.0 von 5 Sternen really enjoyed the book 23. Januar 2014
Von Charles M. Dalsass - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I appreciated the way the book was broken down into simple categories I can remember easily. For example "color", "hierarchy", "type". As a non-designer who needs to understand usability, this helped narrow down the sometimes overwhelming choices we face developing apps. Thanks - great book!

5.0 von 5 Sternen An Excellent and Digestible Read on Visual Design & Usability. 13. Juli 2015
Von Mark Wooding - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I have found this to be an excellent book and continue to teach my interactive design classes with it today. The book does a great job of creating a colloquial language for designers to use among themselves and the different types of colleagues that they work with (sales, developers, project managers, etc.) on interactive projects.

Visual Usability is a great asset, a good read, and not just for interactive design. It's principles can be applied to various design and multimedia projects and also has good suggestions for managing feedback inside and outside of your project

5.0 von 5 Sternen A design gamechanger 21. Mai 2013
Von Vanessa - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This book makes a significant contribution to the field. It helps the reader understand what it takes to yield desirable results - attractive and usable products. It introduces visual design in a way that executives and developers both can understand and use to talk about and evaluate design. Because it doesn't get bogged down in roles and buzzwords, it's silo-breaking approach enables the outcomes to be the emphasis. I especially appreciated the examples because they go into detail while the checklist-style guidelines in each chapter help keep the big picture in mind. The checklists are not a recipe - the authors make that clear - but come in handy when trying to communicate with my designer, developer and clients about design issues. Definitely worth the purchase - it warrants a important place on the professional bookshelf.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Tremendously Usable Usability Book! 3. Juni 2013
Von Patrick Cleary - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
Visual Usability is a great addition to the field of usability. In clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language, supplemented by real-life examples, the authors make the case for three key design principals: Consistency, Hierarchy, and Personality. A wonderful resource for developers, designers, and the layman alike, this book is an easy read and will be an oft-used reference in the future.
4.0 von 5 Sternen Very Good Practical Resource 29. Juli 2015
Von Juliana M. Spitzig - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
The book is very thorough and provides a wealth of practical advice. Although I do not doubt that the authors' recommendations are well-founded, I would like to have seen more research documentation for many of the assertions made, as well as a more complete list of references provided in the back matter.
