Humanity is on the brink of extinction from a genetic plague when an ancient colonizing ship—the Hyperborea—drifts back into the solar system from a failed mission, begun in an all-but-forgotten era. The gene pool of its occupants may hold the key to the survival of the human race.
Gorman Howell is an unassuming scientist from Earth who must tread uncomfortably close to the boundary between science and religion as he tries to bridge the differences between the archaic religion of the Hyperboreans and the technological atheism of Earth.

When I was a kid, if anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say without fail, "A scientist and an inventor . . . or just a normal dad." I succeeded on the first half, but as my kids will tell you, I'll never be quite normal. I am a PhD Physicist with specialties in Space Physics and Plasma Transport. I now work in Southern California in a completely different field. The only space physics I get anymore is when I look up at stars, which is often. The only plasma physics I get anymore involves burning things with fire, which is not very often (I have kids now). In my free time I enjoy board games, running, family vacations, and reading science, math or philosophy articles (I know, not quite normal).
