Gave this a shot on a whim and boy am i glad i did. Excellent art and story telling, faustus is a complete badass with an inner conflict that makes him interesting. Can't wait to pick up the other issues.

More great work from Omeng, and as usual he brings sickness and sadness to a new place entirely all in a fantastic noir style that he does in that perfect manner.

2.0 von 5 Sternen A Ho-Hum Superhero Book 25. August 2014
Von J. Gatsby - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I bought this book a little while back so as to play the field of superhero comics outside of DC and Marvel, The Victories got a lot of good press and positive word of mouth so I thought what the heck, I'll give it a shot. By the end of the book I really wish I hadn't as it was very disappointing. The only positive things that I have to say about this book is that the art is its own style, though that doesn't necessarily mean it's all that good and the story and circumstances of the main hero, Faustus, are quite original, if not entirely well written. Michael Oeming has gotten acclaim for his series Powers, which I've dabbled into a bit, so I'm not going to fault the man as a writer, he seems to have just lost his charm for this outing.

5.0 von 5 Sternen We already knew he was a great artist, turns out he's a great writer too 30. Juni 2013
Von David Ryan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Like most people who will pick up this book, I was drawn to it because of Michael Oeming's work on the Powers series. Powers was a slow burn for me but I stuck with it and now it would take a pretty awful drop in quality to shake me loose. That hasn't happened yet - instead it just keeps improving.
I think Oeming's art has got better and better as Powers went on, while always maintained its most striking and unique qualities. The artwork in The Victories is still unmistakably Oeming, but he has introduced a new feel that makes it distinct from his previous work. More distinctive still is the writing: Michael Oeming's scripting is fun, complex, powerful and feels very fresh and new. His ear for dialogue is great. There also seems to be a very personal thread running through this story, possibly some catharsis in its telling, which is moving, brave and deserving of much respect. I'll say no more on that, but leave it to the reader to see if they get the same message.
I'm really keen to see where Oeming takes these characters and this story. I'm signing up for the whole ride.
How much I like this book may be best illustrated by what I would compare it to: it's the best writer/artist debut I've seen since Mike Mignola...and we all know how well THAT worked out.
