Kurzbeschreibung

Mother, wife, private investigator...vampire. Seven years ago, federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now in VAMPIRE DAWN, Samantha Moon tackles her most frightening case yet. Someone is leaving victims drained of blood, and all signs point to the killer not being a vampire. Meanwhile, Sam can't help but notice the changes coming over her son...fantastical changes that will leave her searching desperately for answers.

As Sam tracks down a ruthless killer, and as her own humanity slips further and further away, an ancient relic holds a secret that will rock her world...and open up a whole new one.

**Acclaim for the Novels of J.R. Rain**

"Gripping, adventurous, and romantic—J.R. Rain's The Lost Ark is a breakneck thriller that traces the thread of history from Biblical stories to current-day headlines. Be prepared to lose sleep!"
—JAMES ROLLINS, international bestselling author of The Devil Colony

"I enjoyed this immensely. The protagonist, Samantha Moon, is a female vampire with a husband and children. Those predate her condition; six years ago she was attacked by a vampire and rendered into one. Now she's trying to carry on with family and private eye business, and she's a feisty, skilled person, so is doing mostly okay. It is not a horror story; she buys animal blood to eat and doesn't generally prey on humans. But her husband has an increasing problem with her coldness—not of spirit, but of body. 'You sicken me and scare the hell out of me,' he tells her. 'And when I touch you it's all I can do to not gag.' She replies, 'Words every wife wants to hear.' I love this! What makes it special are her character and nature."
—PIERS ANTHONY, bestselling author of A Spell for Chameleon

"Dark Horse is one of the best books I've read in a long time! A great classic detective story with a modern twist. Unique and interesting characters (I think I'm half in love with Jim Knighthorse now!), a great plot that kept me guessing until the end, and some of the funniest lines I've read anywhere."
—GEMMA HALLIDAY, bestselling author of Spying in High Heels

"J.R. Rain delivers a blend of action and wit that always entertains. Quick with the one-liners, but his characters are fully fleshed out (even the undead ones) and you’ll come back again and again."
—SCOTT NICHOLSON, bestselling author of Liquid Fear

"Impossible to put down. J.R. Rain's Moon Dance is a fabulous urban fantasy."
—APRIL VINE, author of Intrigue In India

"Moon Dance is absolutely brilliant!"
—LISA TENZIN-DOLMA, author of Understanding the Planetary Myths

"J.R. Rain is the new modern master of vampires."
—H.T. NIGHT, #1 bestselling Kindle author of Vampire Love Story

"I love Jim Knighthorse! Please write faster, Mr. Rain!"
—ELAINE BABICH, #1 bestselling Kindle author of You Never Called Me Princess

"Moon Dance is a must read. If you like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, be prepared to love J. R. Rain's Samantha Moon, vampire private investigator."
—EVE PALUDAN, author of Letters from David

"I totally loved The Body Departed. As someone who communicates with those who are either earthbound or have crossed over—your descriptions and interpretations of the dialogue and circumstances could not have been written more accurately."
—JULIE BELMONT, author of The Path to Personal Success and Freedom

"Powerful stuff!"
—AIDEN JAMES, bestselling author of The Vampires' Last Lover

"Jim Knighthorse is a throwback to classic detectives, which is probably why I love him so much. Funny, street-smart, and tough as nails. I love this series."
—SUMMER LEE, author of Angel Heart

4.0 von 5 Sternen Very Short but Good Read 23. September 2016
Von Lorna - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I really love this series. A few months back I read four of them back to back plus a novella and it didn’t bore me for even one minute. It takes a really good series for me to read books back to back without having to put other books in between. You can actually get the first four bundled on Amazon.

The main character is Samantha Moon, a former federal investigator, now private detective and soccer mom. And to make matters really interesting, she has been a vampire for seven years after being attacked by a vampire. Over the course of the books, she has developed all kinds of supernatural powers, flying as a large creature(bat like? or bird?)being the most interesting for both the reader and Sam. Her psychic abilities come in handy while solving crimes and for reading the minds of people close to her. This time around her police detective friend, Sherbet, has enlisted her help to solve the mystery of a serial killer that is draining bodies of blood. He is one of the few people that know her secret. She is also realizing that her eight year old son is changing and becoming stronger as in vampire strong. In a previous book, Samantha had to save his life with her blood. Of course she is freaking!

The premise of a soccer mom vampire pulled me into the series and they are so well written that I keep coming back to them even with a Kindle full of other books to read. Mr. Rain can definitely write a female character, make her believable, funny and yes tragic in a way. The entire cast of characters are fully drawn and realistic. My one problem with the book is the length. I realize it is a series but the actual book starts at 4 percent in and ends at 83 percent. And with only 168 pages in its entirety, that makes for a really short read. The rest of the book is advertising his other books. The book ends very abruptly at a point where the reader really wants to know more-not necessarily a cliffhanger but I really wanted more of the scene and it wasn’t there. I am sure I am not alone in this. Because the book is so well written, and I totally love the characters, I am not going to lower my rating due to the length even though I was disappointed. I rate it 4 stars.

5.0 von 5 Sternen “Evil people rely on the acquiescence of naive good people to allow them to continue with their evil.”― Stuart Aken 23. Mai 2016
Von L.A. Sheridan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Sam is following leads on the case Detective Sherbet officially pulled her in on in Christmas Moon. There seems to be a serial killer draining people of blood and dumping the bodies in OC. She also has to deal with some shocking repercussions of her actions from Moon Child. Her abilities continue to improve in sometimes hilarious ways and in astounding ways.

Information Fang shares with Sam, pertaining to Sherbet's case, makes me think the bodies were dumped in order to bring Sam in on this case. This is never officially recognized though actions of the villains also suggest she was a target. The big question is, did they catch the real movers and shakers or just some lackeys? She's been kind of naive in her view of the vampire world. She receives a painful shock while solving this gruesome case. Sam follows real leads and tracks down clues using her supernatural abilities and plain old investigative skills. Again, Rain's experience as a PI gives a more realistic feel to the mystery, and how it is solved.

Anthony is becoming an issue that needs to be dealt with. Sam really needs to have a heart to heart with her son about what she is and what he has become. Lucky for him his mother is raising him to have a good heart, like her. His character has some real independent story potential, separate from the VfH series. It would be interesting to see where Rain could take him, but the man has so many other important stories to tell. Maybe one day he'll have room to add Anthony to the list.

Sams growing telepathic abilities are really becoming an issue. Her connection to those closest to her causes some hilarious and awkward moments. Reaching out and touching “others” in the cosmos is interesting and I wonder if these others are the ones who have been guiding her along the way. Maybe they're the ones responsible for helping little Maddie call Sam for help. It isn't addressed, but it seems safe to assume.

Rain's storytelling is great In this one. He manages to weave a solid, in book, mystery while managing to give us something to come back to for the next. The ending was spectacular. I just wish she'd have made that move sooner. The next book will certainly be interesting. The world is opening back up to Sam.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Disappointed 24. März 2012

I enjoy J.R. Rain's stories. But it felt like this book was just an ad for other stories. It took only a couple of hours to read this. For the price, that feels like a rip off. I checked the download size of the file. It was about 1/2 to 2/3 of the size of other books I read. When I came to the end, I was only 2/3s of the way through the download. The rest was excerpts from other books. Then when you add in that he included the Christmas story, the actual Vampire Dawn had little content. I enjoyed the story, but again, felt ripped off. This should have been a $.99 download for what was there.

4.0 von 5 Sternen J.R., I'm disappointed 23. März 2012
Von Febgrl77 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
With such a long awaited arrival for Vampire Dawn, I snatched it up as soon as it was available. After waiting so long for it to come out and paying the full $3.99 for it, boy was I disappointed to see how short it was. I read it in just a couple of hours. Although it was nice of the author to include Christmas Moon, most of us dedicated fans have already paid for that and read it months ago, so I feel kinda shorted there too. So instead of 5 stars, I have to give 4 for this one. But I do love Samantha Moon and I do love JR's writing style, which probably makes the disappointment hurt more than it normally would. We need more!!
5.0 von 5 Sternen Vampire Dawn for Sam? 11. Januar 2013
Von Kindle Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
Picking up where Christmas Moon left off, Detective Sherbet asks Sam to help him out on a case. He knows about Sam's secret and has her help out on strange cases. They actually become close during the time they spend on the case. It's kind of odd but funny at the same time. You can find out why when you read the book. Too many things to talk about here. All I know, is that I am very in tune to this book and am having a ball reading it. This is one of my favorites. Oh, that J.R. Rain keeps blowing my mind with the twists and spins he puts in the books. I love it, love it, love it! Can't wait to read the next installment. Keep it up J.R. you get to me every time. Congrats!
