I get the impression that the best doctors in the world have almost always gone through debilitating suffering themselves. When confronted with standard conventional medicine they reject most of it (as a broken paradigm) and find another path, as pioneers, first for themselves and then for their patients, seeking deeper truth and understanding
This is a profoundly optimistic book in terms of what can be achieved by Functional Medicine that looks at root causes, systems and patterns.
Only through having this deep understanding of what it takes to break through the current 'system' do such doctors write the medicine of the future, today. I shall be reading all his other books, based on this. MH is duly added to my list of health heroes
If only it were practical to visit his practice for 3 months! The gap between this approach to curing the mind via the body - and the shameful and misguided reality of drug-doomed psychiatrists is shocking. On to the next Hyman book then!
The reason i Think ist Is only ok for Those who want to achieve high Energy throughout the day with Great Focus is not because it doesn't work, but because it is too restrictive for Someone like that. I Think Very very few people Actually want to live like that and some restrictions have very Little benefits. I mean f.e. Completly restricing Gluten f.e. - If you have completle Gluten intolerance you probably know by now already and really small doses like in oats are not going to change anything - yet the Book recommends to restrict it as well, even toothpaste.
So basically I think it definetly works If you want to achieve an Ultra-Mind, but the Book is way too paranoid in My opinion - Sacrificing Big differences in Lifestyle Quality for very very Minor, almost negligible differences in Overall Health for most people - of Course this only Applies to some Parts of the diet changes, not all of them.
