Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

As a staff writer for Skunk Magazine and a vocal advocate of his own True Living Organics grow style, The Rev has earned himself quite the following in the North American cannabis community. Though he was once a successful and prolific hydro grower, he saw the light several years ago, and once he sampled his first home-grown True Living Organics bud, he never looked back. Now he can be found lingering around his own earthworm farm encouraging the worms to breathe heavily, and sticking his arms into his soil mixes to feel how much they wriggle.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Extremely Informational, Great Study of Theories/Ideas 21. Juli 2015

Thoughtful exploration of an "alternative" (read: the good old) method of growing, IN SOIL.

I started growing hydroponically indoors years ago (and began an indoor hydro garden again last winter), but have been gardening outdoors for years, and when the temperatures began to increase with the season (causing a critical 4 degree increase in my water temperatures), I decided it was time to (at least temporarily) get out of hydro and get into soil.

As others have said, these are not new concepts, and some of the included "recipes" could be considered a bit over the top (nearly 20 supplements for a "base" soil mix). Additionally, for me, reading the book was more of a "skim and gleam" than a "cover to cover" because of the writing style and organization, but a VERY informational one, and a VERY helpful one. I chose to utilize the basic concepts (providing a good base of nutrients for both the micro-flora AND the plants), making substitutions and/or omissions of ingredients as necessary, to develop my own "program", of soils, container layering, feeding, compost teas, etc... based on the information in this book as well as others I've read on the subject.

Bottom Line: I now have a plant, a clone of one I grew in hydro, growing in soil-- and based on what I'm seeing, I may not return to hydroponics again, even when the temperatures drop. As of now, it appears that this plant is exceeding in health, vigor and yield, compared to it's clone mother which was grown in hydro.

Well, what all can I say? I thought that people like me did not have any say, but here I go. I read through the book, and found it most useful. He clued me in some on magnesium, and how excesses of it can drive turpenes south. {Big, big help.} I am still wrestling with it, since I decided to go a Vegan route, and there is no available magnesium in what I have. I reckon I can just use very conservative amounts of Unsulfured Molasses, say like the amount of the volume of that of a dime into a gallon of water, and to halt it the moment I see any amber hairs. I believe that dolomite lime has magnesium in it as well, but Build A Soil claims that dolomite lime is not good for soil, so I will have to investigate this further. It is obvious that I still have a long way to go, but I believe I have a start here. I will just need to continue my study as I move through time. My goal is to simply come to a fundamental grasp of the subject so that I can develop my own style as far as how I do this, and with me it would be all about ease and convenience, while approaching the threshold of excellence that The Rev here speaks of.
In defence of The Rev here, I believe he is doing all that he can to simulate nature, and I can understand where he is coming from, though once again, Build A Soil believes The Rev makes it harder than it has to be. I noticed that The Rev did not include Epsom Salts like SC includes, and I too highly question using Epsom Salts, where as salts are what we are trying to avoid here.
Bottom line is, The Rev's book here has helped me out a lot, and given me an insight into something exciting and new, and I hope he does very well in his venture as a writer.
Healthier habits, healthier ways; preach it brother, preach it, and friends, we can all learn together to improve the standard of life for all of us...one day at a time. Be kind to one another, and I really mean that.

The Rev from Skunk Magazine has gifted the growing world with ancient Revski secrets. Sure to transform your average “home-grown” grower into a master, high-grade, gardening wiz!

True Living Organics lays down the system for you! Each chapter is a building block based on fundamental elements and practices. As you read through each of the 13 chapters, you will find copious amounts of information that will, for-sure, leave your brain cells excreting TLO! This is a READ, a must read, if you want the true, TLO Experience! Once you get into the book, you will see that the Rev has carefully constructed this compact grimoire, for you to create a perfect soil environment for your plants to do their thing...”Grow like trees”!

Ha ha ha...LESS is really more! The TLO Experience = High-grade and higher yields with less cost and a beneficial environmental impact. Nomads Landing Farm-nCollective experienced a 25% yield increase and spent 75% less on fertilizers our 1st season using the True Living Organics System, and we are Greenhouse farmers, not indoor, yep worked for us in a greenhouse.

So the deal is, if your “into” growing phat, icky-sticky, yum-yums, in potters or beds, you will want to read True Living Organics; IMMEDIATELY! As even stated by the Rev in the beginning, this is not a beginners book to learn to grow, this is more... the next level, or for those who may be a little more daring, it's worth it.

The truth is, you will find no other cannabis resource like True Living Organics that teaches you this low impact, renewable, organic, style of growing. Read the WHOLE book, cover to cover, let those key points get beat in; don't forget the reference material, is worth it's weight in gold as well.

It can do for you, what it has done for us!

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Best - A Must Read For All Organic Growers 21. Oktober 2012
Von AK Van Deelen - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
True Living Organics is a fantastic book that everyone should own. Not just for weed growers, this book is foaming over with tips on the characteristics of specific everyday organic substances. This is also a great book for anyone who wants to know about layering nutrients and soil mixes in containers. TLO also discusses the use of nutrient spikes for added nutrition.

Just commenting on the TLO method itself, my guess is that a lot of problems that come from the instability of decomposing matter (like it's attraction of insects) would be avoided if organic components were first composted in a compost pile or processed through a worm bin.

Also, rock dusts with broadbased mineral components (lava meal, basalt meal, granite meal, glacial rock dusts) would be the only addition needed in such an enriched compost. As well as something (not perlite) to increase aeration and drainage. Rock dust is also a great source of Silica, the forgotten primary nutrient that strengthens and thickens leaves, massively increasing the metabolism of the plant in allowing stomata to efficiently close during the heat of the day which prevents leaf burn and dehydration even in the most intense sunlight, while protecting against biting insects and bacterial/fungal attack. Damage free plants dedicate their energies to growing, not repair.

Rich compost, rock dust, sand/wood and organic teas would be an awesome way to grow as naturally as possible this side of Masanobu Fukuoka's Natural Farming.

I've been experimenting for years with different cultivation methods, and heard about this book at a local garden supply store. I've tried hydro, cocofiber-watered synthetics, "soup style" (as The Rev puts it) pseudo-organic soil, and I've FINALLY arrived. It's a plausible concept that's tough to argue against, even if you know nothing about horticulture: plants evolved for millions of years to function best in their natural environments; are you really going to outsmart millions of years of evolution by cutting corners with abrasive synthetics? Bet you can get some vibrantly-colored or steroid-strength ornamentals with modern synthetics, but anything that you are going to physically consume--do you really want to even bother with anything less than the best!? I didn't just get this book, I've been practicing its concepts for some time now. You can hardly equal the quality of what a balanced soil microlife ecosystem can facilitate, let alone even come close, with any sort of synthetic grow. Thanks, Revski!
